Gascoigne-Arrested....again

What is it with English footballers with a semblance of talent? You'd never see a world-class Italian or Spanish footballer cause trouble the way English players do, and yet three of England's best players have all been in the media for the wrong reasons (Gerrard, Terry and Ferdinand).

Certainly, the English ones seem to have cornered the market for simple-minded thuggery, doltishness and drunkenness, but troublesome players are hardly a local problem. Brazilian stars, for example, seem just as likely to go off the rails these days.

Think the media has a massive part to play in that though and blow it all out of proportion.

Plus you can easily buy some hush in Italy or Spain. Corrupt as fook...

Adriano, Mutu, Bosnich, Maradona - there's a few non-English ones for you.

Fuckwit.

Seriously, he was my childhood hero, in the time of communism when we didn´t have the chance to watch foriegn leagues here in Czechoslovakia and we watched just Czechoslovak legue + international football.

I was an England fan and when I saw Gazza in Italia90 I fell in "love" with him.

He knew how to enjoy life as a young rich man, but now, beeing on wrong side of his forty´s it´s not the case.

The maddening part is he's repeatedly patted on the back by his 'mates' for 'recovering' when it's patently clear he's NOT recovered, he's merely switched from one symptom of his illness to another (such as his OCD gym obsessions). Take his arrival at Kettering:

Now, only an idiot or an incredibly irresponsible 'friend' would look at him there and say, 'Yup, he's turned the corner, we can leave him to get on with it now'. So much for the 'Second Chance' people and his other so-called helpers.

He's never got rid of his mates from when he was a kid. Not that doing so should be encouraged in anyone as such, but they've had such a strong influence on a very easily-led character, and at times have been nothing but leeches. He never seems to have developed as an adult, and his headstrong nature has been taken advantage of. This does not mean he's entirely blameless for his predicament.

Whenever he sobers up i always say that he will fuck up again cos although sounds harsh he need to get away from people he knows who probably encourage his bad habits. His attitude is also a bit wrong also cos i seen him on telly a few times after his last 'recovery' yet i'm there thinking he should go far away from all this shit and his old life and start again.

Don't go on tv saying how he feels all better and felt the best he has for yrs. He will struggle for the rest of his life with alcoholism and mental illness yet it seemed he thought the hardest part was done.

Didn't he once go on holiday to the UAE to get away from the drink and dry out?

It's almost as though everytime he dries out and starts looking up again his ex wife turns up on telly parading her shithouse of a daughter and son, dragging up everything that happened in the past therefore creating more negative press for a man who obviously needs serious help. It sets him back nearly everytime.

Also. If his ex hates him so much, why is she still called Gasgoine?

I read his book a few years back and it is very depressing. All his problems are everyone elses fault. The guy is a mess and is incapable of looking after himself, yet his mates seem to be scum bags who are happy to go out and be seen with him and get pissed.

They'll find him dead some morning soon. I'd be surprised if he sees the year out.

If you read Fowler'c book its clear that he has ADHD.

I was just about to mention that as well. Fowler mentioned in his book that looking after Paul Gasgoine is like looking after a toddler. You constantly had to keep him amused. He'd be in bed late then up at 5am banging on other players door wanting to do something or be entertained.
