Since his latest injury set back, I'll confess I've been thinking the same thing and was actually going to start a thread on it later this evening.

I love Torres and would be loathe to sell him, but if we got a massive bid of c.£80m for him of which at least 0.75% would be re-invested back into the squad (I know it should be 100% but we doubt that's going to happen), I think I'd take the money.

If the money could be used to get a couple of real quality attacking players like Villa, Fabiano, Ribery, Silva etc, I think it would benifit the squad more having these players rather than just Torres who is only fit 2/3rds of the season.

I know if more money had been made available / spent more wisely in the past couple of summers so that we had more than adequate back up for him, this wouldn't be an issue. However, since it wasn't and hasn't been, this is the situation we find ourselves in.

I know this won't be a popular post and there is a lot of if's & but's in the above, but that's how I feel.

Corrected it for you.

No wind up. Stop letting your heart rule your head. Every player has his price, especially one with chronic injury issues.

Look at the amount of goals (and vital ones) he's got over the past 2.5 years. He might be injured more than we'd like, but he's still our biggest match winner. Would barca sell Messi for £100m? I don't think so, and he's injured on average 40% of the season.

To throw another log on the fire, his touch and link up play are poor and he dribbles down blind alleys.

Now that's funny.

12 goals in 14 starts/15 games.

I don't think we'd be able to get any adequat replacements for £600k, therefore I'd keep him.

We'd need to be able to spend >£60m of the money IMO.

Just to be clear, anything less than that & I deffo wouldn't sell.

Would barca sell Messi for £100m? I don't think so, and he's injured on average 40% of the season.

That's completely different though. Barca have other truely World Class players around Messi, other very good squad players and a seemingly never ending crop of great youngsters.

We don't.

By selling Messi, Barca would still find it hard to improve their team, such is the quality they have. We could vastly imporve on 2/3 posistions with the sale of Torres.

I'm not saying this is something we should do, nor do I want us to do it, but I do feel if the above criteria I mentioned was to be met, it is something we should look at.

I'm the only person who hasn't mocked your original post but that is frankly redonkulous.

It's an interesting, if hypothetical, question. Regardless of inflated prices as a result, it would take some pretty awful transfer dealings for the team not to make a net improvement with £100m pounds to spend and Torres to depart, especially given the kid's injury record.

The hypothetical element comes in whether we would be able to re-invest all of it on players as per the original post.

Assuming we can re-invest 100%- I say, yes, we should sell.

Assuming we can't - I say no, keep him.

Either way, Torres is a brilliant player and a seemingly cracking bloke to boot. However, business is business....

Take me through how it's ridiculous. I've seen him stink the place out many, many times, and his touch and link up play have been schoolboy standard, not to mention his constant strops. If not for the fact that he's a natural born goalscorer it would be a bigger issue.

you don't sell your best players full stop.

however, given our financial situation etc, and assuming we'd get to spend it all, i'd seriously considering selling torres for 100 million if it meant we bought Villa, Silva and Mata with the money.

its just an example, but we'd be able to seriously improve the team with that kind of cash not just for now but for the long term.

Why do people even fucking ask these stupid questions? 'Would you sell Gerrard for 70 mill?' 'Would you let Torres go for this amount'? I'm not just talking about Momo here, I've seen this kind of topic for months on this board now and it's annoying as hell.

a. Fucking bored. Please fuck off.

b. Read a.

c. WE won't be selling anyone. It will be the shite owners and we won't be able to do anything about it.

d. No amount of money will replace him. No we wouldn't be able to buy Benzema or Chiellini or anyone of the like because that money will go to repay debt AND if any is given to Rafa, knowing that he has supposedly sold Torres off for a large amount, every single fucking player we look to buy will double in price. So you will only be able to buy one vastly over rated and over priced player.

You don't sell your best players to move forward. You only do it if you have a pair of cunts as owners who need to repay their debts.

p.s. I thought higgo was a Spurs fan.

Torres is an amazing player but his fitness record leaves a lot to be desired. We have to ascertain whether it's just been a case of bad luck or if it's something for sinister.

Lets be honest how many times has he come back from National duty injured? Thats where the majority of them come from, I think we need to start fucking Spain off a bit more when he is even remotely tired or carrying any knocks.

Not sure I agree with the first line, it depends on the circumstances. Agree with the rest. The lad has reached almost legendary status in such a short space of time and it's easy to let your emotions get the better of you when discussing him, but ultimately he's just a footballer with a poor injury record who could potentially fund a title winning team. Contrary to what Rafa has said previously, if he thought he could improve the team by selling him, he'd do it in a shot.

I don't think it's just the internationals. It certainly wasn't in his first season. He's just always injured. I wince everytime he goes into a tackle.
