Do a bit of a tour through the country, Freiburg and Heidlburg are class little cities/big towns in the Southwest, Hamburg/Munich/Berlin have the parties and the countryside is great. Make sure you sample plenty of the Weissbier and Dunkels

Cologne is ace. I go every January for an exhibition.

Just after we leave there is a festival there, I think its the first weekend in February the theme of it is that the women in Cologne can do whatever they want for that day and i mean anything....A fella i knew stayed on a bit longer one year said its crackers the streets are rammed with people in fancy dress getting pissed from 8 in the morning and the birds just grab you and ram their tongues down your throat and invite you back to their hotel......thinking about it can't understand why i have never stayed longer???

I love Cologne, I've been twice. I think the festival is on the main square (near the river and train station). There's a superb pub 'The Corkonian' near by run by a red called Vinnie. Also Papa Joe's is strange but ace bar.

GC, where do you fly from and who with? I was let down last year by TUI who changed the flight times which meant we went to Berlin instead which was superb.

Always wanted to go to the Munich beer festival, in my mind I can't imagine anything better, but I'm told it's all pretty commercial now.

Been twice, once about ten years ago and then last year. It is very commercial now, but still well worth a look. Was very surprised last year though, when they now have winehalls aswell as beerhalls. And no, there can never be enough beer, though I've been in the bad bad bad days of losing a couple of days on Reperbahn aswell.

Hamburg and the Reeperbahn if your missus is 'open minded', or failing that, Munich fits the bill perfectly.

Hamburg is probably top of the list at the moment.

Apart from her deep hatred of all things German, my wife is fairly open minded.

Berlin is boss. Used to go out with a bird from there. The more creative bits seemed to be in the old east then but I haven't been for ages. The massive flea market was great on Sundays.

Was there one Christmas with knee high snow everywhere. Absolutely beautiful. Highlight was probably the snowball fight with riot police.
