Replacing an oven element

Is it fairly straightforward operation, or am I likely to blow myself up?

Bear in mind my mental capacity is fairly limited

Also, where would be the cheapest place to obtain said element?

With this in mind.... I would consider a local chap/lass with suitable skills to do it. Your oven should be on a 30amp circuit and you don't want that down your arm. unless of course you turn the fuse box off first or if you have one the cooker switch-do both if possible. 'Bear this in mind', though the element is a goner it will still be live at the connection point in the oven. Turning it on could be a problem too if you get it wrong ( metal case, live cables etc)

Unless you want to resemble pork scratchings or kill a small child then stay clear.

Here's how I would approach it...

...Start by collecting your tools and a handy list of expletives, Then once you have cross threaded a couple of screws and irreperably damaged a part of the oven that was previously fully functional, I would call out a chap in overalls to come and finish it off in a fraction of the time it took you to cock it up.
