I once saw a doc about him and he explained why he thought he was one of the best players of all time.

 

He said they would be doing conditioning in the mountains in preseason and he was never much of a trainer. So he would induce the coach to indicate the route they would be running beforehand, he would go out at night, smoke a couple of fags and find a shortcut. The next morning he would stash a pack of fags in his shorts, jog through the shortcut, stop a couple of times en route for a fag and would still get to the finish line among the first three.

 

He said brains are the difference between good players and great players.

 

Surely he wouldn't get away with that today?
