Got myself acopy of The Man Who Knew Too Much to watch sometime over the weekend. Bit late now, like, but might watch it tomorrow.

 

I love North by Northwest and Vertigo. Psycho and The Birds are good but obviously different genres. Anyone here have a fave Hitchcock movie? I think I may make it a project to watch all of his films.

Rear Window is my favorite - that first shot of Grace Kelly is a classic, love 'To catch a thief' aswell.

I love North By Northwest. I've also bought Vertigo and Rear Window on recommendation, but haven't watched them yet. Overall though, I think Hitchcock was overrated as a director. For me a lot of his stuff just isn't that good. And I include Psycho and The Birds in that.

Psycho, for me, is a good movie but it lived for years on the shower scene and the score which went with it. Without that scene it would have been just like any other reasonably good film. I find The Birds quite weak although still watchable. There's something entirely different about the likes of North by Northwest and The 39 Steps. Atmospherically those type of his films are unique and it's that atmosphere that I find completely compelling.

Amazing stuff. I wasn't that taken by some favourites like the Birds and Rear Window, but i loved Pyscho and Vertigo.

 

My other faves are:

 

Rope (tense)

Dial M for Murder (genius story)

Frenzy (some classic black humour)

Co-incidentally, a fella at work had to have an operation on his penis last month and since returning has been christened Alfred Stitchcock.

There's also that brilliant shot in Frenzy where the camera pulls back from the crime scene, as if it's backing away in horror. Perfect example of Hitchcock's genius.

 

I still reckon my favourite would be Rear Window. Or maybe Vertigo. Or Psycho. Or The Thirty-Nine Steps.

Merton's documentary about his British films was repeated on the BBC the other night - it may still be on the iplayer and is well worth a look.

That was my inspiration for this thread. Really good programme. Love the way they "filmed" Merton interviewing Hitchcock.

Rear Window is my favourite, atmospheric, good story, wonderful set, Stewart being Stewart, Grace Kelly looking amazing and an excellent Simpsons parody too.

My favourite Hitchcock film, without question. Cloaked by that sickly green with Hermann's brilliantly hypnotic soundtrack. Carlotta Valdes would definitely get it.

Watched Vertigo, North By Northwest and Dial M for Murder again recently to cleanse the movie palate.

 

Going to watch Rear Window, The Birds and Strangers On A Train again too when I get the time.

 

The Birds is disturbing as fuck, even more than Psycho.
