@Lizzie Birdsworths Wrinkled Chopper - how's the boy doing after his illness?

Can’t remember if I said on here or not, but the vet gave him a clean bill of health after his 3 weeks intensive treatment.

Repeated his faeces tests and none of the stages of lungworm were present, including larvae etc, putting weight back on, back to his normal self.

It was the first case they’ve ever had where the dog has survived, she thinks because it’s often hard to spot until it’s so far advanced dogs are being brought in at death’s door.

Think we just got very lucky, touch wood.

Thanks for asking mate.

MrsD has been after a puppy for a while. It's always been on the agenda to get another dog some day.  I would rather not get one in the house we're in as it's small and we only have a yard.  We were planning to move this year but with everything that is going on we don't know when/if that's going to happen.

Being home until further notice has added weight to MrsD's argument and she's looking at puppies now.

I know when I see it I'll fall in love and that'll be that. We'll have a dog again and it'll be boss. KidD is nearly 6 so a good age to have a four legged pal. I'm just not sure it's the right time.

Can anyone talk me into/out of it?

I caved in similar circumstances and the dog and everything that goes with it is a pain in the arse. If you’re gonna do it, get a dog that will grow up to be placid and lazy, instead of a little mad thing that keeps trying to run off.

Get a beagle and as soon as it pisses you off just open the door. Problem solved

My wife was telling me last night that prices of puppies is significantly up. We paid £750 for our Lab in January they are going for £1500 now.

As good an idea as it might seem at the moment (time to baby it, take it out etc) once things return to normality and it’s left by itself more, they could develop separation anxiety and be quite unwell.

There's also the socialisation aspect, if you get a puppy. Given how important the first 4 months are in terms of new experiences, overcoming fears, etc, you'll need to consider what impact lockdown has on a pup's development.

Beautiful dog Scott. How's she doing and coping with lockdown?

Our knobhead is 1 in 2 weeks and we're making lots of progress through the difficult adolescent phase. There have been some really trying moments where I'd have happily given him up but I'd miss the stupid little bastard too much.

Here he is refusing to let me get back to work until he's had a tummy rub, in his favourite hiding place and being a bit of a poser.

Thanks.

I don’t think lockdown is making any difference to her. Before all this, I WFH 4 days a week, my wife the other day and all of us are obviously at home on the weekend, so she’s never short of attention anyway.

With the weather being decent, we’ve been able to leave the back door open to allow her to go into the garden as she pleases.
