im surprised no-one has mentioned that other essential component of the perfect brekkie, namely waking up with a hangover. That first mug of tea when your head and stomach are feeling a bit delicate is beyond words. If you are feeling 100% then it just doesnt hit the spot in quite the same way.

So for the record

large mug of tea

2 rashers of bacon

2 chipolatas or 1 large regular sausage

1 black pud

1 fried egg

mushrooms

toast

potato scone/farl/cake whatever you choose to call it

and because my scottish granny always did it, a personnal choice would be a bit of fried clootie dumpling.

HP sauce is my condiment of choice.

yeah but who ever heard of a grilled breakfast of a grill-up?

Erm... just about everybody? ;)

The thread said cooked breaky. I just cook it the way it tastes best. Sloppying in grease isn't the way forward, from a taste point of view.

Some of them minty brekkies remind me of Freddy Hearst in Layer Cake.

NOT ENOUGH TOAST.

5 x White bread toast (M&S)

3 x Smoked Bacon rashage

2 x Cumberlands

2 x HASH B's

2 x ulster fry

1 x liver sausage

Beans

1 x mug of tea, 2 sugars

Fresh orange over crushed ice

Two of the sausages sliced and eaten on toast with RED sauce for openers, the other left to work within the meal.

Barely need to eat again until the next day, unless you're peckish mid-late evening.

The Teagather Cafe, Myrtle Street do the best value walk-in breakfast in Liverpool, all of this (bar the liver sausage and ulster but egg, tom and mushroom options) plus brew for £4. Also serve the veggie contingent.

Stitch that, Hemmingways (£4.50, not customised and no brew).

The Fulwood Arms do lovely bacon and sausage on toast.

We need more City Breakfast Reviews and awareness fora here, troops.

Going to be a tad controversial here but here goes:

2 English Muffins

2 Poached Eggs - yolk slightly runny

4 Rashers Back Bacon - smoked or unsmoked

Hollandaise Sauce liberally applied to aforementioned muffins

For the traditional fry up Cafe 53 on Bold Street - just up from Matta's - represents decent value. They allow unlimited swapsies so the anti-bean or tommie brigade can ditch em for an extra rasher, sausage or whatever. And you can't argue with that.

Proper Ulster Fry pisses over your English cooked breakfast........Fact

Sausage

Bacon

Mushrooms

Soda bread

Potato bread

Fried, thats fried eggs

Beans optional, not really sure about this

all the above in whatever quantity you like, the height of the food on the plate should be directly proportional to the width, ratio 1-1.5!! lol

No Black/White pudding

No scrambled eggs

I agree with this. I hate fried bacon, it's far too greasy. Grilled until the rind is crispy is definitely the way forward. Although I find sausages are much nicer fried on a low heat, than they are grilled, as long as you drain them properly once they're cooked.

It's my Ma's birthday today. Hopefully she has fucked off out the house for the day, so I can get my breakfast on. Although we have no orange juice, or black pudding, so it's going to slightly lack all the trimmings.
