Surprised this hasnt been posted (or has it and been moved? If so apologies!)

Juve could turn out to be a stalking horse and flush out barca. Im beginning to think we should cash in ifthe money goes to benitez since it seems to me his head and heart are no longer here.

Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano could be on the move in the new year, amid reports that he is unhappy at Anfield, with Italian giants Juventus understood to be readying a £23 million offer.

According to a report in the Mirror, the Argentine, who possesses an Italian passport, has become disillusioned with the Merseyside club since the summer departure of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid.

Along with his former team mate, Mascherano was the topic of transfer speculation earlier this year with Barcelona eager for him to move to the Nou Camp, but at the time Rafael Benitez said he would not part with any of his big-name players.

At the time, Mascherano's agent claimed his client was keen to move clubs having "grown tired of England", and following his under-par start to the season, Juventus's interest may well prove enough to lure the 25-year-old away.

It is not the first time Juventus have expressed an interest in Mascherano having tried to sign him from West Ham three years ago before he finally settled on his move to Liverpool.

Imagine if this one comes off. Combined with their almost signing Xabi last summer, they could just have stolen our song.

Ohh-ohh-ohh-oh-oooooohhhh,

We got the best midfield in the world,

We got Xabi Alonso,

Momo Sissoko,

Diego and Mascherano-oh--ohhh!

Couldn't think why I'd want to namedrop Poulsen in there.

The noises coming out of Barcelona were that they were never going to pay our asking price. It would also have been suicide to sell Alonso and Mascherano in the same summer.

So we just keep a disgruntled player, which pisses off everybody else in the team and leads to speculation all season long. We'll lose at least £5m on this plus his wages, another great piece of transfer business.

We'll get £25m for him next summer and we wouldn't have got more than that if we'd sold him this summer. The fact that Juventus have also expressed interest may even see the price go up, the more clubs in for him the better from our point of view. We also have the chance to weigh up a replacement having been given 12 months notice.

He expressed his desire to go before last season finished.

I have a lot of sympathy with the view that we should not have let both midfielders go this summer. As it has tuned out, Mascherano has not been at his best yet this season. We weren't to know that in the summer. One can only hope it is a bit of form and not a bad attitude. At the very least we can expect professionalism. Xabi was disgruntled last summer and he went on to have a great season. Mascherano should take a leaf out of that book.
