Maradona is too old for me but individually I just can't believe that he would've been better than Messi. Maybe he had more transcendent achievements, but Messi's goal tally and consistency separates him from Maradona. It's like asking who is better between Messi and Zidane. Even if Zidane was untouchable for stretches of his career and had incredible tournaments, Messi is still better.  

 

Ronaldo has become so decisive but again, if we're saying who's the better footballer, it's still Messi. No one has ever combined playmaking and scoring like Messi does.

It's an opinion that almost no one can actually back up, just like any comparison between players who played decades apart. That's why I said "I just can't believe Maradona would be better" instead of "Messi is better" but there's no way for me or for anyone to actually know. I just judge it based on the fact that no one has ever been as productive and consistent as Messi in Europe in terms of goals and assists and then on top of that he's pure magic with the ball. 

 

And a lot of your post is old school bollocks. You can't decide that players wouldn't fit in to certain era's like that. It's not like Messi is soft either.

There may be a comparison to be had between Maradonna and Messi, and I say that as somebody old enough to have watched Maradonna (but as someone said above, there was no television saturation then like there is now).

 

However, there is no question that Messi is a more complete footballer than Ronaldo. He betters him in every aspect. Better ball control. Better shooting. Better heading. Better passing. Better human being. Better hair.

I find people who say Ronaldo is better than Messi a bit dense. No offence to anyone, but I've seen this a lot recently and it seems people are basing their opinions on a single game. Forget the hundreds of matches played before. Ronaldo scores a hattrick against Spain, Messi misses penalty against Iceland = Ronaldo is the "GOAT" according to these dimwits.

Ronaldo is not, never has been and never will be a better footballer than Messi. No shame in being the 2nd best though, and Ronaldo's achievements are phenomenal. He could well become the greatest all time scorer in international football the way he's going (currently second to some Iranian player in the all-time scorers list).
