Ronaldo has a defensible claim at the greatest goalscorer of all-time gong, even though that's got to be Pele really. But, greatest footballer of all-time, nah. Not close to Messi or Maradona in terms of sheer footballing ability. The amount of titles he's won does not change any bit of that (and even then Messi has won more trophies than him).

Best doesn't do it for me.

Oodles of natural talent, but he pissed it up a rope, exactly the way truly great players don't.

Most truly great players weren’t/aren’t alcoholics, though. Best’s career, at the top level, was cut short as his alcoholism took hold. Even so, he still played 10 or 11 seasons for Manchester United.

All of these arguments are a bit moot because of huge disparities in conditions.

However, for me, Maradona’s achievements with orherwise average Napoli and Argentina sides at the very highest level put him miles ahead of the rest.

Unfortunately based purely on big game performances you have to say Ronaldo is better than Messi.

I just swallowed a bit of sick.

Was off the pitch when Portugal won their Euro title. If he gets this Portugal team to the semis or final he deserves a lot of credit but he still has a bit to prove. Its also not difficult to get shedloads of goals playing for Real or Barca so him and Messi's stats are a bit skewed. Ronaldo is holding his form and fitness much better than Messi though.
