Greatest British film ever made?

Recommended Posts

I love the old Ealing comedies.  I'll even spend an afternoon watching Gainsborough melodramas.

BBC Films / Channel 4 films; if it's British I'll watch it.

I have Small Time on VHS which up until recently wasn't available on DVD, and it's a treasured possession.

I wouldn't say it's the greatest British film, but the other day I watched:

The Supergrass.

Brilliant film.

I remember Dead Man's Shoes as being an excellent film but I don't think I would say it was near 'the best.'

It’s daft to even suggest it in my opinion when there are films such as The Devils, The Third Man, The 39 Steps and The Lavender Hill Mob in existence.

Like you said, it’s an excellent contemporary thriller and Meadows, along with Lynne Ramsay, are the two most exciting British directors, but they’ve a long way to go to stand shoulder to shoulder with Russell, Hitchcock, Reed and David Lean.
