The Conflict in Afghanistan

A group of right wing fundies storming a country and gathering up a load of US vehicles and weapons as they go, jailbreaks, sounds like ISIS part 2. Maybe the US needed a new enemy and this was all planned from the off? The Dems are back after all and they haven't had a war yet after most of one year, maybe it's time for the defence corps to start raking in cash.

The US invaded the place two decades ago and have been there since, you'd think maybe the world's biggest superpower and spreader of freedom and democracy would've made a country than can defend itself better than it has after all that time? They're a fucking shambles. Maybe they were more focused on getting opium production raging again instead of helping to create a stable country.

Afghanistan has been stitched up. There is no way I believe the USA did not know this would happen after they withdrew. Taliban have taken over without any resistance whatsoever. I'm convinced there was a deal in place with the USA to enable the Taliban to return. The Taliban have probably given assurances that they won't support international terrorists and won't stop Chinese and Western companies from operating out there, and that's good enough for the USA.

Yeah wouldn't surprise me that at all.

The bbc were reporting that it would take months for the Taliban to make significant inroads  and they seem to have done it in days.

They seem quite intent on putting out a pr messege when this hasn't bothered them in the past.

And although it's easy to say in hindsight, anyone with half a brain when asked before the invasion  would have said it would be a disaster.

Yet the finest minds in the gmnt and the military were like..nah it will be sound.

I expect Pakistan to be in trouble. They've had massive problems with Taliban militants within their country and now they've got a Taliban state on their border. Expect plenty of strife in Pakistan in the future.

They (ISI) created the Afghan Taliban.

British and German embassy staff have stayed at Kabul airport to process visas for interpreters who worked for them. But a hell of a lot of people are going to be left behind.

Trump ordered the withdrawal of US troops when he was in office. Yes, Biden personally agreed with and followed through on that decision, and has to take responsibility for that, but it's disingenuous to imply this was a Democratic decision made for their own reasons. the withdrawal was planed to take place if Trump and the Republican remained in power.

Not surprisingly, Trump is now trying to make political capital out of the inevitable mess that has occured following the withdrawal he ordered.

Interview with the Education Minister (Female) in the soon to be deposed Afghan Govt.

Not sure what’s going on for her internally, I wouldn’t even try to imagine. The bravery, vulnerability and authenticity she displayed through her words though were incredibly powerful.

Her not being able to stay in role, without paying lip service to whatever else may happen to her, is one of a million reasons why Afghanistan will be a lesser place for the foreseeable.

Godspeed to her and all those other Afghans who appear to have been massively let down by those making decisions from thousands of miles away.
