Carra's view:

Jamie Carragher is hoping Liverpool's financial troubles will not see a summer exodus at Anfield.

Recent reports of monetary problems at the Merseyside club have fuelled speculation that a number of top stars could be sold over the coming weeks.

The Reds have been quick to ease supporter angst by insisting that will not be case, promising that new arrivals remain the priority - not sales.

Carragher admits it is vitally important that stance is backed up, with Liverpool keen to build on last season's second place finish in the Premier League.

"I'm like any fan, I get excited about who we might bring in. The players are exactly the same as the man on the street, you pick up the paper hoping you are going to see you've signed someone," he told Sky Sports News.

"But this summer there has been a bit of speculation about players moving on, so at the moment I'm hoping that doesn't happen rather than people come in. We have got a great side at the moment, and I'm sure the manager will make a couple of additions, but we don't want to lose anyone."

One of those linked with a summer exit is Spanish schemer Xabi Alonso, but Carragher hopes those reports prove wide of the mark.

"He and Stevie Gerrard were probably our best two players last season. I think Stevie won Footballer of the Year, but if you asked the fans I think they would maybe say that Alonso was our best player last season so he is certainly someone we don't want to lose," he said.

Carragher also believes that Cristiano Ronaldo's record-breaking move to Real Madrid will help the chasing pack to close on champions Manchester United next term, but admits the Red Devils will still be a force to be reckoned with in 2009/10.

He added: "He's a great player and I think he will be a big miss for the Premiership. He makes a big difference to Manchester United, even though they have a lot of other great players, and I think he was the one for them.

"But I'm sure Sir Alex Ferguson knows what he is doing and to have £80million to go and spend, that's a lot of money. It will be difficult to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, but maybe they will do it a different way and get two or three players.

"It's difficult to replace that, but I'm sure they will sort it out. Hopefully they won't bring in someone as good as Ronaldo!"

Not true. He was keen as fuckin mustard to sell him until he failed to land gareth barry!

I just don't believe this. Gareth Barry himself, and Aston Villa, have BOTH said that there was no contact at all from Liverpool since last summer.

Noone doubts Barry was earmarked last season. But a lot changed since then, and Benitez turned down a renewed bid from Arsenal in january and has made it emphatically clear since May that he wants Xabi to stay in the face of madrid's interest. Even Bascombe's piece on Xabi made it clear that it is Xabi (and above all his shit-stirring agent who has apparently already negotiated and agreed a contract with Madrid) who want out, and not vice versa. Regardless of what you may have heard, all the evidence is to the contrary - especially the failure to approach Barry.

If Xabi wants to leave, fine. But he's loved - absolutely loved - by the fans of this club and he won't get that at Madrid.

reading between the lines in tonights echo (aka the anfield gospel imo) its seems rafa has had a change of heart and will accept a 20-25m bid.have a look and see what you think folks

(cant post the link unfortunately! its on the bottom of the "johnson story")

personnally id take 25m for him cos if a player wants too leave and wont publicly commit his future to us? id take the cash and wish him luck in the future.be gutted if he went but rafa could easily find a replacement (maybe even two? as he bought alonso for 10m) and we can find a player whos head & heart is committed too the reds and chasin league number 19!

I don't answer to you, you sad little virgin.

What I know is what I know. How I know it is nobody's business but mine.

If I tell you something, then count yourself fucking lucky I've even bothered my fine ass to stoop to communicating with a pathetic little skid mark like you.

now piss off before I hunt down your sister and make her say "i've had enough".

Is that it - "What I know is what I know"? You are joking, right?

I know your last threat is a joke because you couldn't look at a woman without pissing your pants much less make one say "I've had enough".

You really are a delusional twat. Keep up with the poppers, kid. I'm sure you'll find the right man one day.

So you're basically saying that you believe Rafa hasn't tried to sell Alonso and wasn't in for Barry because of what you've read in the media?

Well, I don't see what Barry has to gain by saying in public that Liverpool did not bid for him. I'd actually expect him to say that Liverpool were in for him but that he chose City because he was convinced by their project, etc. It would give him more credibility.

All I'm saying about Xabi is that I've seen no evidence that benitez wants to sell him THIS SUMMER (other than a claim by David "No Credibility" Maddock), and that he's been pretty adamant in rebuffing Madrid since May (ie before Barry was on the move).

Either way, I think we the fans and the club deserve a bit of loyalty from Xabi and I'd be massively disappointed if he moves on this summer.

Well if we're talking sources, would you say it's fair that Tony Barrett is fairly in the loop regarding targets?

Liverpool FC confident of beating Chelsea to Glen Johnson signature

Jun 19 2009 by David Prentice, Liverpool Echo

LIVERPOOL are set to score their first victory of the new season over Chelsea – by clinching the signature of Glen Johnson from Portsmouth.

Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie has confirmed that the England full-back had been given permission to speak to TWO clubs.

“Glen has got permission to speak to two clubs and I think that is what he is going to do,” he said.

“The matter will come to a conclusion next week. I do not have a preference over the move, it is up to Glen and his agent. The deals are almost identical so it is really down to him and what club he prefers.”

Liverpool, however, remain confident that the £17m defender has made up his mind on a move to Anfield. He is expected to cut short a holiday to have a medical this weekend.

Xabi Alonso, meanwhile, was asked about his long-term future yesterday and cryptically replied: “I cannot respond to that. But each player thinks about the future.

“It's clear that on the outside there are reports about your future, but you cannot do much and the only thing you can do is train normally.”

Alonso has three years remaining on his Anfield contract and Rafael Benitez does not want to sell the Spanish midfielder. He will only consider a transfer if Alonso makes it clear he wants to leave, and if a club meets his valuation of the player. Only Real Madrid are likely to be able to meet an asking price in the region of #20m-plus.

The Reds, meanwhile, have announced the appointment of Antonio Gomez Perez to their backroom staff as reserve team coach. Gomez will work alongside John McMahon.

This is kind of Viagra related. I also don't know if I should laugh at it or not, but I did anyway.

A guy who I know who works in a bar in Leeds, who shall remain nameless, came in to the bar a few weeks ago, early on a saturday evening. The conversation somehow turned to Viagra and with that he suddenly came out and said, "I took some viagra last night with that bird I went homw with, and I think I might have accidentally raped her".

We were obvioulsy fucking aghast, and wondering why he would volunteer this info. He went on...

He was having some pretty rough sex with some bird the night before, totally wasted on all kinds of shit. Midway through she said, "I like it rough". So he started proper ragging her everywhere, spitting in her face, slapping her round the back of the head, all that good stuff, until he finished his business.

Afterwards she sat on the end of the bed staring in to space, hugging herself and generally looked to be in some kind of mild shock.

Apparently she hadn't said, "I like it rough" but had actually said, "I've had enough".

i can't vouch that that this is a 100% true story, but it made me laugh uncomfortably.

Haha. As much of a cunt as you appear to be with your direct manner and your "I shouldn't have to tell you cunts fuck all" approach that made me fucking laugh.

God damnit I'm adding to your neggings. I thought by quoting something I'd not fall into the trap of ranting something stupid after just waking up, and instead I post about Glen Johnson in the fucking Xabi thread.

That's mainly because I'm just that used to the only sticky I read being the transfer one, will ask a mod to delete the post.

edit : you were on about Xabi nm, just remembered I can go back and edit too if I have the time. Why do I have to be so insane after just waking up? Damn, can't edit, will pm a mod.

Rash - It's less to do with being touted about last season and mroe about what happened this season. Whether people agree on his form or not in previuos seasos is irellevant. He did the work and turned it round, big time. He rightly assumed that the Barry debacle should be water under the bridge and his performances would warrant some respect and some loyalty.

It's the fact that he was being touted about at the end of last season - having been our player of the season - that's the straw that broke the camel's back.

And now, cos he didn't get Gareth Barry, Rafa's back tracking and arse kissing has begun.

Yeah, it's down to Xabi now I suppose, he isn't being forced to leave any more, and if he goes then he goes of his own accord. Definitely. I won't argue with that. But it's rafa's fault it's come to this situation in the first place.

if he hadn't touted him out behind his back and the didn't get Barry then we'd have kept Alonso happy and ultimately kept him. As it stands the relationship is now too broken to fix.

Sensational. Absolutely sensational. If I hadn't recently repped for the brilliant Liamo remark, I'd have done so here.
