Harsh, he's left footed, he's a proper winger, who can deliver a decent ball, and finally, like most of Rafa's signings, he played reasonably well against us in the 3-2 game at Anfield :whistle:

Downing is unfairly lambasted. He looked an excellent prospect when he first came into the Middlesbrough 1st team and was touted as a potential long-term replacement for Ryan Giggs at Man United. His career then went stagnate but in the last 18 months his performances have improved considerably, as his added ore to his game and has become more consistent, scoring 9 league goals last season in a poor Boro team. He is a very good crosser of the ball and has started to become more of a goal threat as well.
