Best Movie Soundtrack?

I consider a proper 'soundtrack' to be music specifically written for the film, rather than a Tarantinoesque throwing together of pre-existing great tracks, good as they are.

That said, I'm now going to have to go away and think about a reasonable suggestion...

There are two types od soundtrack, I agree. One where it's written especially for the movie ie.

John Carpenters stuff is marvellous, eh Pete.

and random tracks sampled to fit the movie:

Don't know about "best", but just a few of the top of my head:

Out Of Sight

Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels

The Matrix

Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?

Go

For me, the soundtrack has to compliment the film, not just be a collection of songs/music. It helps if the film itself is fantastic.

It's quite clearly Team America (apologies for some of the really shitty videos people have made to accompany the songs);

I think I've probably said this every this kind of thread has surfaced; for me there's nothing better than Jackie Brown.

Bill Withers

Bobby Womack

The Delfonics

The Brothers Johnson

Foxy Brown

Randy Crawford

Minnie Riperton

Johnny Cash

Yes please.

Just been watching Pulp Fiction, which probably has the best soundtrack of any film i've seen, though that's been mentioned a lot already. Another soundtrack I love is the Cool Runnings one, some boss songs on that.

One that hasn't been mentioned on this thread, but definitely deserves to be, it the soundtrack to Once. To be fair, it's a film about two musicians (one of which is played by Glen Hansard from The Frames) so the soundtrack should be a bit tasty. Get on it.
