We lost our little lad today, Basil aka Mr Faulty.

They’d all been down to the vets in January for their service and MOT. The girls were fine but the lad had lost about 1kg, about a quarter of his weight.  The vet ran a blood test and that came up fine. Needed to see him again, a couple of weeks ago for a scan. Turned out the poor little fella had liver cancer. He seemed all right, eating OK until yesterday (Saturday). Then he wouldn’t eat, looked very frail and this morning Her Indoors called up to me in a panic. He’d tried to walk, he was a bit sick and his legs gave way. He died in her arms.

Not sure exactly how old he was as we took him in as a stray in 2007, only a kitten, so we reckoned about 17 / 18.

We’re absolutely gutted, he was really terrific.

RIP Baz, YNWA.

Thanks mate. Here's a fairly recent pic, not a brilliant one admittedly.

They live short lives compared to us but you'll have given him the best life a cat could even imagine, and more.

@tokyojoe I'm sad to hear about Baz.

The good to come of losing an awesome cat is that you can get new cats and tell them all the time how they fail to live up to the standards of the greats that came before.

My boys Sam and Ninja are told regularly that they're decent cats, but will never be as good as the boy William was.

And his framed photo on the mantlepiece is a daily reminder to them of the standards they are striving for.

He looks like a very good boy. I'm going upstairs to talk to the two monsters actually.

It's a cat in a box. But it's a black and white cat in a black and white cat box.

He's a stupid boy, but I'm fond of him.

We're on holiday at the moment, so we packed all the essentials.

My cats are killing machines and love to bring their prey home. It's been a constant pain in my arse as long as I've had them, like no cats I've ever known, but hopefully... no more.

I've bought myself an AI enabled video cat flap.

It knows when they arrive at the door with something in their mouth and won't unlock. Take that you pricks.

So far I've not turned that facility on, while they get used to the new door (especially Sam, the dope, who hated it for 3 days until last night).

But from tomorrow, that should be our last indoor rat, pigeon, mouse, screw, vole or bat. Yes, fucking bat.

Dear God I can tell you a pigeon bleeds a lot.

For now, enjoy my ring doorbell for cats rogues gallery.

Denied! You rat catching little bastard.

The AI has a problem telling Sam's white mouth from being prey in his mouth, so until they can train the software and reissue, the contraband lock isn't turned on for him, so ge could bring a mouse in yesterday, but thankfully it's on for this little prick.

Ha ha, Dusty brought a live bat in once. I was like 'What the fuck is that?' as it hid in a corner of the stairs.

I don't miss that about them as it was always me who had to get the beasties out the house.
