Anyone met/talked to past or present players?

One of my mates rang 606 in 2007 to complain about the ticket allocation fiasco, and after his call one of the producers asked him if he was going to Athens to which he said yes. Radio 5 were doing a show live from Athens the night before the final and they wanted a group of Liverpool supporters to appear on the show, that group being us.

Anyway, the night before the match, we were all sat outside this bar in Athens (with the verandas opened out as it kept flittering between scorching heat and torrential rain) and Radio 5 started their show. They had some guests on; journos, pundits etc. and on the next table to us was James Richardson (Football Italia dude) We got talking and he moved over and joined us on our table. Later on, Jan Molby and Graham Taylor joined the group and we all got trolleyed into the small hours. Graham Taylor is a top, top fella and we managed to get him to do the five time salute!

Only one or two Liverpool players, but the ex-player that really gave me goose pimples when I saw him was this fella in a bar in Crete.

I didn't speak to him because I thought he wouldn't be able to speak English, I've regretted not making that attempt ever since.

Loads of people of a certain generation rave about Puskas, but I know almost nothing about him bar his name.

I mentioned in a different thread that I met Robbie Fowler at the Blackburn Rovers training ground in December last year.

He was a really sound bloke. I got him to sign a painting (of which there are only 3!) and a shirt from the 06/07 season with his name on the back. The guy who managed to get him to come to the gate asked me if I was going to sell these things on eBay, not even if my life depended on it was the reply. Especially the shirt because I went to Athens in it. A comment that brought a huge smile from God. He stopped for as long as he could for a chat before having to dash off as Ince came flyng round the corner in his fucking huge Audi.

I can definately say that as I have a Red Heart, I can rejoice for I have seen and spoken to God.

There I was on the bus, whirling my way round the financial and legal buildings in town a Switz number plate caught my eye and who is popping into the met quarter none other than Deggen, not Dan Eggen but Deggen. I'm not sure who it was out of the two brothers but it was a Deggen, he may still be there if you want him but I could not talk to him as were separated by a glass transparent wall of some sort and some little tyke had robbed the glass hammer from under the 'If you see Deggen break glass' hammer holding facility.

Never forgotten evening with Vlad the Impaler after we got stuffed 4-1 by chelsea. Spent real quality time with him and met a few of the other players.

But the highlight of my life was meeting Shanks when I was 16

Lastly most of the players at the Meriidean Hotel in Paris 1981 after the game

Ive been quite lucky with those types of memories.

After the Liege game, Richie T and I went for a dander around the stadium - heard all these kids shouting "Rafa is coming, Rafa is coming" - out the gate drives Rafa with Montse - he pulled in and put the window down, signed all the small kids shirts including Richie T  - then shakes our hand and says "hope you enjoyed the game, I didnt" and grinned and then drove off.

I have been within touching distance of the king a couple of times and words would just not come to me.

How do you speak to a person that you think is basically god, you don't, you just look open mouthed and bask in the glory.

I have never regretted for one second not speaking to him, because I have nothing to say but thanks and that is shallow about how I feel for the man.

So say fuck all and move on.

I imagine it is how a lot of old reds feel about Shanks and quite rightly so, my era was Dalglish and kenny was the King.

Scored over 500 goals for his clubs at almost a goal a game, more than a goal a game at international level.

I always feel that the 50's Hungary team signalled the change of the game into its modern form , and Puskas was the main man in that change ( Albeit there were several brilliant players - Hidgekuti etc. ).

Looking at any film from before it & then comparing it to the beauty of the football on show in the 6-3 defeat of England at Wembley is like watching 2 different sports.

He also managed to be a fantastic player despite being the least athletic looking individual ever.

And that was no fluke, they then beat us 7-1 in Budapest a few months later. Also beat West Germany 8-3 in the 1954 World Cup before losing to them in the Final.

There was a great programme on TV the other week and it covered all that. What a team, to beat a side 8-3 and then lost to them in the final, was there a bit of controversy over a decision - in the final - I seem to recall there was but would not put money on it.

Spain will beat their undefeated record if they avoid defeat in their next 2 games, that will make 33 undefeated.

No what you mean

In my job I have met some very famous people but have never been i awe of them because it was my job but when you meet footballers or legends then it becomes much more difficult with Vlad it was easy as he took a shine to the young lady who was in our group.

In the 80's my uncle was a chef at a country club in Ruthin,North Wales...the owner was friends with our Scots contingent and my Uncle introduced me to Dalglish,Souness & Hansen but I was too star-struck to say anything.

I have met Markus Babbel and he was sound and last year I met Joey Jones,Jimmy Case,Tommy Smith & Ian Callaghan and they were total legends - down to earth, friendly and happy to chat.

Did you ever get Jill Dandoe's autograph before blowing a bowl of spaghetti in the side of her hed?

Yeah, spoke to David Fairclough, David Johnson and Alan Kennedy once on the Centenary car park for a few minutes. Seemed nice enough.

Also spoke to big Rowdy Yeats. A really nice man he was too. Said hello to molby on anny Road as well.

John Barnes was a few seats from me in the upper Centenary a couple of games ago. Said hello to him and shook his hand. He said 'hello mate'!

Made me day that, speaking to JB!

Have met and talked to loads of ex players mainly thanks to me dad, who seems to know every fucker. Brian Hall, Fairclough, Tommo, Grobbs, Aldo, Sammy, Heighway, Toshack, Neal I could go on. Best ever moment though was as kid having a kick around with Kenny as Paul played in the same junior side as my brother. I can remember every single last little detail of that day, especially the initial whiteness of Kenny's trainers. Bizarre really. I still have my Candy top signed by him framed on my wall from that day.

I used to see Terry Mac alot in Tesco, Kingston Park, near Newcastle Airport. never actually spoke to hm, until one night in a restaurant where I live, my wife had to go over and say "blah, blah, blah" and he came over and we had a good chat, that was deliberate against Spurs in the cup. He saw the square in the net he was aiming for and let fire. He was with David Mcreery(sp) but I thought he was someone else and they made me guess who he was. Very bizarre.

I stayed in the same hotelas the team a few years ago. It was before a game against Leeds. They were getting on the bus at the side of the hotel and being only a young fella at the time i was a bit start struck. I couldn't move when Fowler came along so i missed out on a picture with him. Gary Mac saw me standing there with my dad and he called me over, asked how i was and then i got a picture with him. He was a really sound fella. I got my picture taken with Jamie Redknapp as well, he was sound too. When i was talking to Gary Mac someone shouted at him to hurry up but he told them to hang on, he had a few minutes to spare to have a chat with the wee lad.

I met Roy Evans in Tramore Co. Waterford the night before a race meeting. Againi was fairly young at the time. He was with a group of friends but there was one twat with him acting like a bodyguard. Roy was up at the bar so i went up with my dad and we started talking to him, the twat came over trying to get us to leave him alone but Roy turned around and told him to piss off, he was only having a chat with us. He signed a beer mat for me as i had no paper or anything on me. I found that beer mat a few weeks ago clearing out my bedroom.

I met Ray Kennedy as well outside Anfield the day after a game, we were rushing to get to the airport so he let us take his taxi, another sound man.

I got Peter Beardsley's autograph on a Mersey Ferry when he was playing for us, guess it must have been around 1987. I was shitting myself when I walked up to him - we were on a school trip though, so were in a bit of a queue to get to him!

I also 'met' and 'talked to' John Aldridge - I bumped into him walking into the toilet in a McDonalds by Hunts Cross and we both said sorry to each other! This was around 1996.

That's about it, so I'll have to clutch some straws now and bore people with players I've seen in the flesh but not met (as such) or spoke to...

I always find it strange when I see someone famous in real life. Always wish afterwards that I'd spoke to them or got a picture or something, but always feel a bit nervous around them.

I once saw Robbie Fowler in WH Smith's in town - I was just really surprised that he could walk through Liverpool city centre without getting mobbed! This was when he was still playing for us (1st time around) not long before he joined Leeds. I just stared at him as I walked past and it was like he was trying to stare me out! Speaking of have stare-outs with famous people, the same thing happened with Max Clifford when I saw him getting out of a taxi in Manchester last year!

I thought I saw Riera driving down North John Street a few weeks ago in one of them sporty Audi's, in white. Wasn't 100% sure if it was him as his head was down looking at his mobile phone as he was driving past! 80% sure it was him though!

Also saw Jason McAteer a few months ago on Victoria Street - he was talking to someone, but I wished I'd have said 'hey mate, didn't you used to play for Tranmere?!" I had a mate in uni who reckoned he him and his mate met him on a night out once and they went back to his place and ended up lending a porno! Not sure whether to believe that one!

I saw a prick bombing around in a Lamborghini Gaylordardo by Victoria Street when the MTV awards were on, and later learned that it was Jermaine Pennant!

Last year, we were sat on an early Virgin train to London at Lime Street and saw John Barnes walking past the carriage as he was on his way to London for that Strictly Come Dancing.

I saw Igor Biscan outside the Thistle hotel in a Jeep a few years ago - he was wearing jogging pants and looked like he'd just got out of bed!

I was surprised to drive past Steven Gerrard about a year ago in Maghull in a silver Range Rover! He was turning out of Ormonde Drive in Maghull into Gainsborough Avenue and I let him out and he waved to me. That made my day!

Also saw Steve Staunton in Maghull years ago, around 1990 or whever he played for us around that time. He was a passenger in a car driving over the Red Lion bridge in Maghull and waved to me and my mates.

I've also seen the whole Liverpool team on the pitch in Anfield, oh wait... :-)
