Don't see how that is relevant at all (though she really is seriously seriously bangin) - this is the same argument that anyone wealthy that expresses left of centre political views is a virtue signalling champagne socialist - it is complete and utter bollocks.

She’s saying “if I need some help to look as good as you normally do effortlessly, then who are you to stop from getting that help?”

I don’t think that’s the same argument as the typical champagne left wing argument “I think the likes of us should pay more tax”.

Or she’s saying;

But When you’re a brown woman whose skin get lightened and whose ethnic nose gets made smaller and who gets thinned out all without your permission making you feel bad when you have to look in the mirror or meet people in real life and you feel like a liar you maybe get my point?

An interesting counter view point. In summary, “easy for her to suggest as she’s bangin”

Shit argument, badly made. There's barely a sentence in there that stands up to a second's scrutiny.

That person gets paid to publish her opinions?

What does Michael Jackson have to do with it?

This is just silly.

It's a Christmas classic probably being played in shops and radio stations all over the world.

But a radio station in Cleveland, Ohio has decided to remove Baby It's Cold Outside from its playlist following complaints from listeners.

Local media report that listeners said the song was inappropriate and at odds with the #MeToo movement.

But a poll on the station's Facebook page showed a majority of respondents did not want the song banned.

"Baby, It's Cold Outside" is just a light-hearted song about chatting someone up.  There's nothing rapey about it: persuasion is not coercion.

Actually, the fact that this station launched a Facebook poll makes me think it's all just a (successful) publicity stunt.  They probably never received any complaints at all.

Excellent explanation of why there's nothing rapey about Baby It's Cold Outside.

Bump.

https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-46793406

I'm putting this in the old Political Correctness thread since I don't know where else.

Yet another example of... I don't even know what to call it... idiocy, stupidity? So Bryan Cranston has to defend himself because he was playing a disabled character, and the actor who played the murderer in the Murder of Gianni Versace will no longer play gay men, despite the fact he was just awarded the Golden Globe for his role. I didn't  even know he wasn't gay or couldn't care less. He did an excellent job.

Isn't it perfectly obvious that LGBT actors and actresses can and do play straight characters and vice versa, plus, if you get an audition, how are you supposed to prove that you are gay? And why should you? Why wouldn't you play a disabled character or a transgender character if you can, if you look the part?

And what is doing my head in is that we are now at the point that I have no idea if you are joking or not.

There was an opinion piece in the Guardian by some lesser known gay actor during the Jake Whitehall brouhaha when he claimed that Timothee Chalamet and the other guy in the Call Me By Your Name couldn't have expressed all the nuances of gay sexuality and romance because (apparently) neither of them was gay, despite the fact Chalamet's performance was universally acclaimed as worthy of an Oscar (he was nominated). I kept thinking when reading the article, is this guy for real? And then I checked the comments section.

You can’t agree with everyone. You did say his performance was nominated for an Oscar and universally acclaimed, so I doubt he’d see that article as that big a deal. I wouldn’t say it’s exclusive to the so called “PC brigade” though. Remember the hoo-huh about the possibility of Idris Elba playing the next James Bond? “James Bond was white!!”.

I never said it was exclusive to the "PC brigade", and it's not about one article, that was merely an illustration, outrage campaing appear with increased freqeuncy and success.

The Golden Globe actor said he would no longer accept gay roles, even though he was excellent as Andrew Cunanan. Interestingly, he does not look very Philipino and real Cunanan does a bit, so it would appear that gay lobby was stronger than the racial / ethnic representation one here. He is great as the character he is portraying, if for a second we forget it was a true story and the real guy looked a bit Asian, which the actor does not. So that would have actually been a valid point, not that he isn't sleeping with men in real life.

I disagree with the increased frequency bit. Plenty of straight men playing gay roles with very little bother e.g, Benedict Cumberbatch playing Turing, Rami Malek playing Freddie Mercury. If you look hard enough for it, you’ll find dissenting voices tho I’m sure.

There are regular campaigns against actors playing disabled people, transgender people, gay people. It's reported every week or so in leading mainstream media. There are also regular racial / ethnic / whitewashing / "white savior" campaigns. Prominent figures are now backing down or apologizing in situations in which you are mostly left scratching your head (well, I am).
