Man Of the Match Vs Real Madrid - Away Leg

I don't know if this has been mentioned elswhere, but what was the sense in bringing Gerrard on for the last 3 minutes? That baffled me.

He's been out with a hamstring injury, we are 1-0 up and he comes on cold risking another pull. What benefit could he possibly get from 3 minutes, where he could potentially overstretch and cause a worse injury. Surely 20 minutes jogging around and stretching at the end of the game would have been the equal to any perceived benefit from 3 minutes of intensive play.

I thought that as well. Lucas was another sub that confused me, why bring him on and play him out of position for the last few minutes, surely that's asking for trouble? We would have been better of keeping Kuyt on (who was up to speed with the game and used to playing that position) rather than bringing on someone who isn't used to playing on the right and who is 'cold'.

We ended last night with 4 central midfielders on the pitch and no strikers. I thought we would have been better keeping the formation as it had been, maybe we could have nicked a second and there would have been less chance for mistakes from the subs or players being used out of position.

It turned out OK like, I just thought we took some unecessary risks.
