Not a Barrymore fan but there was a funny moment when he was on a reality show. A member of the public was in there with them and this Joe Public guy just couldn't believe Barrymore was homosexual. So he asked him outright...

Joe Public: Are you really a gay?

Barrymore: Nooo. I just help them out when they are busy.

I've never followed this story closely from the outset, and accept I'm not in possession of all the facts, but my probably ignorant view of this tragedy was as follows: Barrymore hosted a party where mostly gay men attended; drugs and sex were on the menu; Stuart Lubbock attended knowing this was the case and partook willingly in both; He dies as the result of an accident that Barrymore probably had no knowledge of whatsoever at the time it occurred; Barrymore's career nosedived as a result of this case in a way it might not have had if the victim (Stuart) had been a woman at a more 'conventional' party.

I'm ready and willing to be corrected on all of those points, given other people, presumably with more knowledge of the facts, are convinced otherwise.

On a *slightly* more light-hearted note, I came across this recently, from his show, from that bygone era called the 90s. Incredible to my mind that this was considered the norm - and I was an adult when this was first broadcast:

Was watching one of those ' It was great in the seventies ' programmes andthere was a segment where one of The Bachelors ( Irish singing group ) had a roughly eight year old Lena Zavaroni on his knee singing a love duet . Takes a lot to make my jaw drop to the floor.

TBF, they were called The Bachelors for a reason.

In some ways it was a more innocent time. You've probably seen it but this song was promoting ethnic diversity. I think.
