Dirk Kuyt

You think what is his level?

His goalscoring record as a striker before he came here was phenomenal, and he was decent in his first season here as a striker. Since then he has struggled. Get him back upfront where he should be played.

I don't think his first season was that much better TBH. Better sure, but now he has the problem called Torres+Gerrard = 50 goals + 30 assists!

He's hardly that effective either, Benayoun and Babel would have a far greater output than Kuyt if they were allowed to play in as many games.

Benni might run him close. Babel, no way. Kuyt's ace in the hole though is his work rate and that the right sided defensive unit of him, Arbeloa and Carra is pretty close to impenetrable.

Please Babel hasn't become a shit player overnight, if he was given the confidence from the manager and starts Kuyt recieves he would be twice the player Kuyt is, your forgetting Babel outscored Kuyt in the league last season.

Embarrassingly, yes Babels 4 goals outstripped Kuyts 3.

Kuyt's overall play holds the team back. When a player loses possession and stops the momentum of the play as much as he does, he denies us opportunities, and makes us a worse team that we would otherwise be. His goals / good chances ratio is also appalling.

He played well yesterday, but let's be realistic.

Lets look at the situation realistically.

Strikers are best at attempting to find the back of the net. They dont necesserily make good midfielders. There's many a top striker would consistantly lose the ball, or make a bad pass when playing in midfield. even Alonso last season was guilty the same.

Kuyt is a striker. let him strike regularly, and then judge him, not b4.

Kuyt has played lots of games as a striker this season. He was a regular striker. Surely you know this?

Kuyt is rubbish as a striker. He is too slow of thought, he can't control the ball, and he has no pace. He needs 10 good chances to score a goal. He's a worse striker than he is a right sided defensive midfield player.

We used to get a lot of Dutch football on the tele when he was with Feyenoord and every time I saw him he looked like a world beater. He was everywhere making and scoring goals, it really shows the differences between the leagues. Either that or he suddenly lost it after being with us for a while.

It's a different standard of football. Babel looked like a world beater as well, by all accounts.

Funnily enough I've always liked Kuyt.

I think he keeps defenders busy and on his day can be very effective. The problem for me is that he was bought as a striker (iirc) and hasn't really been used as one and has lost his edge.

Great goal on Saturday though, there was no way he should have been able to score from there. I just hope he's got his shooting boots back on for the rest of the season as we're going to need him and Babel to deliver.

Poor old Ngog, he must be aware that he's out of his depth (or maybe he isn't aware if Rafa keeps picking him).

Well, I've held a torch for Dirk since he arrived. Probably because I kept seeing glimpses of his qualities in that first season, 12 Premiership goals ws it? Fifteen or sixteen altogether?

Obviously he's been playing in wider positions since then, and that rate has dropped, but I still liked his work-rate (yawn yawn) and his excellent European scoring record.

OK, he's not pacy, and he isn't full of tricks, but his passing and touch are underrated and he makes the right flank very secure.

However, with the equally sedate Riera on the other flank, we do have the slowest wide men in the league, so I think it has been rather pedestrian at times, and after his early-season goal flurry, he certainly looked in need of a rest and a goal.

But great to see him back scoring, hopefully he can get 5 or 6 more now.

Well in Hard Work Dirk.

Jesus. Tony Adams didn't just get the sack because he was white you know. Portsmouth are fucking shite.

I like Kuyt the man but Kuyt the footballer would be more use if he wore flippers. We don't have a brand new Kuyt thread for every shit performance he puts in so did we really need a new one when he finally puts in a good one?

Just seems like some kind of bizarre "told you so" from the Dirk Kuyt Fan Boys. Told me what? He's still fucking shit!
