He has been out with a calf injury. An interview with him earlier in the week suggested he might be back for this game, but either he didn't make it, or Rafa wouldn't risk him, when just gotten back.

Does Xabi wear an electronic tag? Something that prevents him from moving once he gets to 30 yards from the opposition goal? Even if there's space in front of him, he stops, pauses, and passes sideways or backwards. He's been doing this for the past month or so, so it's not just today. If you play Mascherano, Xabi HAS to get forward more. Control can only get you so far.

I agree, but there are not enough players in the box. I think it was Gerrard who had a nice cross into the box only to find that there were five Everton players and one Liverpool player in there.

Everton are packing the defence and it is never going to be easy to break through it. Babel needs to grow some balls and quick. He started ok but after about 20 minutes went back to ball watching. Dirk is never as bad as some make out even if he's not great. He gets the ball in and is always available. We play better at pace and at time we knock the ball around ok but we have to keep that going right up to the 18 yard box, he who dares Rodney and all that. I can still se us winning this.
