Marathon bars are returning to the shops again, after almost 30 years of essentially being off the market.

Marathon bars disappeared off shelves in the UK in 1990, when manufacturers Mars decided to give the popular snack the same name across the world - Snickers.

While the chocolate bar remained the same nutty and caramel confectionery people had always known and loved, the name change was tough to swallow for some and lead to many people continuing to refer to the brand by its previous name.

Nostalgic fans will be able to pick up retro editions of the bar, complete with Marathon branding, when they go on sale again in the UK for the next three months, the Mirror reports.

The limited-edition bars will only be available in Morrisons, priced at £1 for a pack of four.

Announcing the retro chocolate, Gemma Buggins, brand director for Mars, said: "Bringing the Marathon bar branding back for a limited time really was a no brainer.

"It’s a great way to celebrate over 85 years of Mars making chocolate in the UK and we hope this serves as a wonderful treat for fans of Snickers who remember when it was called Marathon!"

Only for three months? So more of a sprint than a marathon?

I remember small purple boxes of treacle brittle, I'm sure it was made by Callard & Bowser.  They stopped making it 30 odd years ago which was heartbreaking.  Sticks of absolute heaven wrapped in purple foil, too hard to chew you had to suck them down to fuck all.  Even now my mouth waters at the thought of them.

Was helping out the daughter by doing some shopping for her business & was in Parfetts cash and carry and had to be physically dragged past the aisle where they had trays of various Bluebird toffees ( about 12ins x 8 ins ) - Fruit & Nut , Banana Split and Creamy , with the ubiquitous small silver hammer.
