He'd a slow start when he joined. Nowadays half our fans would have given up on him.  But once he settled he was brilliant. Complimented our attacking play and players so well too; not just an end product.  Incredible talent.  Great feet for an ugly fucker.

Did he?  I seem to recall he hit the ground running, along with Aldo and Barnes... we were irresistible at the start of that 87/88 season with the injection of those 3.

Narh, there was a bit of criticism of him up until Novemeber time, if I remember correctly.  It didn't help that he had a massive price tag and that Barnes was absolutely ripping it up.

There was criticism but it was really unjustified though Beardsley admitted he felt he wasn't near his best. the Everton 2-0 game at home seemed to really set him on his way.

He probally didn't have the start that Barnes did, there was that headline in the mirror,Peter the plonker, but that derby was a turning point.

Barnes was seen as a huge gamble at the time.

Barnes was less than a million while Beardsley was over 2 million. It added a bit of extra pressure on Beardsley for a while.

Yep and it all came from the sale of rush,so essentially cost nothing.

Barnes' start was about as breathtaking as football gets.
