I honestly thought they could wipe out points if they wanted to. They did it to Martin Brundle and Tyrrell in 1984. And Schumacher in 1997 after his desperate collision into Villeneuve.

And you're right. My bad. Well, we're kind of both right. They apparently can deduct championship points. I truly didn't know that was an option. I suppose I should have known as it happened recently to Racing Point. I've recently been acting as a Driving Standards Adjudicator at club level racing, and points deduction has never been used on my watch. There have been rare times when time penalties have been applied that have had a similar effect.

It's how the rules are applied that might well be the key issue at Yas. Verstappen's brake-check on Lewis last time out could easily have ended Hamilton's race. MV was given a ten-second penalty. If the same thing were to happen but this time LH's race is prematurely ended, how can they apply a heavier penalty? The die is surely cast. Red Bull would be all over any points penalty; perhaps even in the law courts. Think FFP and M*n C*ty.

Red Bull has done an extraordinary job in taking the fight to Mercedes. I'm afraid I can't be as complimentary of Max's on-track antics. Nevertheless, this title battle has been truly compelling. I hope this last race is clean, both drivers battle fairly, and the race is free from mechanical failure or controversy.

Fat chance.

Go Lando!

Nah, Mercedes fucked it by not bringing Lewis in when they had a chance to change his tyres

I said that above, but, leaving aside the fact that max needed two safety cars to even get himself near Lewis, what the fuck was that all about when the safety car was out and the marshalls changed their mind on the restart procedure at literally the last second?!

Anyway, even with Mercedes poor decision, Lewis was still about 12 seconds ahead with 7 laps to go. max wasn't getting near him.

I agree, huge luck for Max but these things tend to even out over the course of a season. Could easily have been the other way around.
