The burbs. Shit should be ranked alongside the likes of citizen Kane.

I fucking love The 'Burbs. I spot something different every time I watch it, which is probably every second week the rate that ITV show it.

Saint_Jack.jpg

Seldom seen and very difficult to get hold of but well worth the effort if you can dig a copy out. Ben Gazzara plays an ultra-cool American pimp hustling in Singapore during the fag end of the Viet Nam war. Apart from servicemen on R&R his clients and friends include ex-pat businessmen (including the wonderful Denholm Elliot, Joss Ackland and erm....Rodney Bewes. Yes, 'that' Rodney Bewes. Such is his talent for his work Jack comes under the scrutiny of both the CIA and the affronted local mob. This has a great authenticity of time and place about it and benefits greatly from some fantastic performances. Highly recommended.

THE-RETURN-OF-CAPTAIN-INVINCIBLE.jpg

A great musical superhero movie.

Captain Invincible was caught up in the McCarthy witch hunt and was labelled a communist because he wore red underwear. Thus he wound up a drunken bum in Australia. However, the world is plagued by the work of Mr. Midnight played by Christopher Lee. Thus Captain Invincible must overcome his alcoholism and rise up to save the world.

A great slice of musical comedy. It has Christopher Lee singing and dancing and Alan Arkin doing what he does except in tights. If you dont like this move you a raging homosexualist.

It's probably not underrated amongst the chin-stroking cogniscenti, but Shenandoah is not one that gets regularly talked about by the cool kids.  It should be.  It's something else.  I watched it months ago and thought "yeah, OK, that was good"... but there's something about it that sticks with you.  It sets you up as if it could be heartwarming, but it's actually quite unsettling.

James Stewart stars as the widowed patriarch of a Virginia family, who promised his wife that he would keep their children safe from the encroaching Civil War.

He fails.
