This should answer your question.

I am the Lord your God, thou shalt have no other god but me.

The West Wing is the greatest TV series ever created - I actually prefrerred it to the Sopranos. Every single character is a gem (even the 'hapless' Brit Lord John Marbury).

Is it 50 quid for all 7 series? Id be tempted at that too!

It is brilliant. The dialogue is really fast and intense and you have to immerse yourself in it to keep up. The characters are another strength with acting to match. If I was to criticise it (and these are only very slight criticisms, as I love the show), I'd say that it can just err on the side of schmaltz now and again. Also, it definitely wobbled when Aaron Sorkin left over his drug problem during Season 5. It finished very strongly though and I felt it had renewed itself brilliantly with a new President in Season 7.

I gave up after about the fifth episode, will have to get back into it but I found it a bit over the top and almost Utopian.

Some quotes in there along the lines of:

"These Cuban immigrants have risked life and limb to find a better life in the United States, that's heartwarming."

"I'm a bit worried about hiring him as the President's assistant because he's black, I'm worried about the symbolism."

"Look at these women, these strong, remarkable women, doesn't it warm your heart?"

No

This show was the best thing on TV for many years. For many Americans, Jed Bartlett was the ideal president. Funny how Martin Sheen had also played Democrat JFK years earlier, yet in reality he is a liberal.

What made the show was the quality of the writing, and how they pulled no punches in showing the nastier side to presidency (ordering the assasination of the Crown Prince of Qumar).

Ive got the entire collection but the series did drop away after Sorkin left.....

Enjoyable none the less....

Ron Silver reminds me so much about Al Pacino it's scary, and his hair looks so much better in that season compared to the terrible do he had in the final season. I was genuinely sad to hear he passed away a few months ago.

Btw, I read this funny little bit on his Imdb page the other day: "Often when I walked onto the set of "The West Wing" (1999) some of my colleagues would greet me with a chanting of "Ron, Ron, the neo-con." It was all done in fun but it had an edge."

Apparently he lost out on a lot of acting jobs because he supported Bush.

Fair play, the forum has called this correctly; indeed, when it comes to porn and TV the forum is almost always correct, with the exception of Dexter. Three or four episodes into Season Three so I have quite a few observations:

Just how instantly likeable is Martin Sheen? Josh has such a natural swagger that he fits the character perfectly. Toby's interaction with the protestors was a thing of beauty; he could be any of about ten people on this forum. The show is quite fortunate in the sense there is almost nothing they can do which would be branded unrealistic. I rate all the older women - Miss Lindingham included - but can't say that aside from Joey Lucas and that Republican - who has a very nice voice - that any of the younger ones interest me. I really wish they'd stop giving Donna so much time.

The end of Season Two was very well worked, I thought, Sorkin ran the risk of doing a Christopher Nolan(putting to much in at the climax and diluting it's overall effectiveness) but it came together superbly - it just worked.

Worth a stab?

The first couple of seasons are as good as TV gets. As a whole, it is right up there with anything else ever made. As a screenwriter, it is a much watch.

EDIT: Just seen the original date.
