I see they've remade Independence Day and called it Skyline.

Hopefully Battle : Los Angeles will join District 9, and restore some lustre to the aliens on Earth genre . It seems to be shaping up as a cross between Black Hawk Down and Predator.

That remake will be a shitfest guaranteed. What is it with people who will keep this wheel spinning by marching down to their local cinema and watch this diluted durge when they can just as easily check out the original? Has there ever been a Hollywood remake that is even equal to the original?

The Thing is itself a remake of Howard Hawks' The Thing from Another World. Despite being widely regarded as one of the most smashing horror/science fiction films ever, at the time of production it was derided by pretty much everyone.

John Carpenter's quite happy to be paid to have his films remade, though, as he receives an awful amount of money.

Great article by Anne Billson about The Thing

Try to check out Anne Billson's BFI book on the film (in the Modern Classics Series).

WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK!?

In my top 5 films.

It doesnt fucking need remaking. I saw it recently at my local cinema and the opening scene is beautiful. It HASN'T DATED.

And they're giving it to a first time feature director. Well good on him cos if he fucks this up (which he has by taking it on) he'll be forever a cunt in my book.

YOU FUCKING MORONS. GAAAHHHHHHH

Yep, good read. It was re-published last year I think.

Yes, that's what they've said, but it's going to be a prequel that's out of synch with the original - Mary Winstead's character (there wasn't even any women involved in the first one at all, other than the glasses wearing stunner in the videoed game show Palmer and Childs watch) is going out hunting for the Thing with a helicopter pilot. The introduction of sexual equality and politic through this pseudo-Ripley character is totally unnecessary. There should be no women there at all, particularly none as delectable as Mary.

The whole film should have been shot with bearded dudes speaking in cod Norwegian, accompanied by subtitles. Or better yet, not made at all.
