"Oh, did I forget to mention this was his favorite trail?? Sorry, my bad, been really busy the past month."

Feels like

a) The parents were hoping he would get away.

b) They knew he was going to off himself and wanted to give him time.

It’s very weird. Tragic and weird

To be fair, in a country where a large part of the population are tooled up you can hardly expect people to return fire if you just randomly shoot at them from a van.

I’m with you, I think they were charged but let off for the reason you’ve outlined.

Police attend to the 911 call.

After that incident she finds the Cross of Coronado in the Utah desert.

He doesn’t want to share it so kills her and disposes of the body.

Goes to his parents who take him to the trail where his remains were found ‘lay low.’

But the parents want the cross for themselves and kill him, and now that have it hidden behind a false wall in their basement until it all dies down and they can sell it on the black market.

Parents alert the police to the trial so they can close the murder investigation off.

I have one message for the parents - that cross is an important artifact, it belongs in a museum.
