Great band and I love them. I wasn't old enough to be there when they played spike island but wouldn't have missed heaton park for the world. Can't stand people who rattle on about kids liking them like they are the only people allowed to like them because it was 'there era'. So what? Only Stringvest can claim to be a genuine Beatles fan on here if thats the case. (He probably cant stand them).

Oasis were better though.

The Stone Roses best ever guitarist was Aziz Ibrahim.

That reminds me of when Anthony Gizmundo or whatever his name was took over from Pete Doherty when he was strung out on crack. Proper no mark he was.

On the subject of the Stone Roses vs Oasis, The Stone Roses is a better record than Definately Maybe, but Morning Glory is better than Second Coming.

No problem you having a different opinion fella. I love the stone roses. Both class. I just prefer Oasis. They are criminally underrated on this forum.

I think Oasis get more of a pasting than they deserve, as Definitely Maybe is a belter of an album and always will be. Personally i think they only ever showed sporadic glimpses of brilliance after that first album, and Liam is a bona-fide helmet. It's like he took the Ian Brown Manc swagger template and multiplied it by 900 to the point of caricature.

No-one in Oasis can hold a candle to any of the members of the Stone Roses musically. Reni was one of the best drummers of all time, John Squire is a genius on the guitar and Mani is a quality bass player. But Noel is a better songwriter than Ian Brown and Liam circa 93-95 (before he went all SHHINNNNNEEEEEEE) was a better singer than Brown by far.

That's pretty fair.  I love both bands.
