I've been disappointed in Xabi for the last two seasons, culminating in his performance at the Bridge, in the CL semi, 2nd leg. I thought he was awful that night, and had to finally admit to my gloating arl fella that he had been right - Xabi does not give us enough.

 

I also think Barry is a top, top player.

Barry, as although he may not have as much natural talent as Alonso we'll get far more out of him.

I really like Xabi but I think premiership managers have worked him out now (close him down / put him under pressure and he is ineffective). Barry will offer us a lot from his set pieces, is proven in the prem and will fit in well. Finally, Rafa wants Barry.

Barry. Consistently performing well against superior opposition in an average team. He'll give better balance to the side and is a strong, leader type character. I think he'll be a great signing, whilst its also nice to have a few more british born players in the team.
