The Death of the Pub

There is no such thing as a shitty canalside pub. they are all most awesome, that's why narrow boat pub crawls are the shit.

I like 'Spoons, they have a wide range, no shit music playing at 20,000 decibels and are cheaper then the average bear.

Canal side pubs are almost always awesome.

two of my favourites are...

The Turf - Exe Estuary, Nr Exeter

Double Locks

The walk between them is good too. If you're ever down in Exeter get on it.

The idea of walking near a canal while on a pub crawl has always worried me a bit, surely this is a potential one way trip to dysenteryville?

I've thought about this topic long and hard, great subject by the way, I've come to the following conclusions...

I'd contend with you assuming that drinking is or should be a social thing Sectioned but I'm glad to be finally rid of pubs. Some of the best times I've had have been a result of drinking alone and then 'socialising' with sober people doing their everyday stuff such as shopping. I don't see how it should be done with freinds in a safe environment as then what is the point, may as well have a shandy instead, unless that's too risky?

Which drugs should be social is a good question, crazy people tend to drink coffee alone but the best barometer is to check social networking sites.

I mean crackhedz for instance, now they have a reason to stick together because they need to support each other, create diversions while stealing from big corporations such as Tesco and other crack orientated activities. Together they form the backbone of society but drinking addicts who need a pint 'after a hard day's work' (Yeah right pisshead) should engage in this alone , deal with their drinking demons shamefully in some dark corner and stop encouraging others to drink with their peer pressures. Besides, your freinds know who you are and you cannot make up that you are in the top 10 at Wimbledon or whatever claims you make.

Being part of a group is very influential and we want people to drink less surely?

The government want people to be detached, go from their bubble cars to their bubble office desks and only speak appropriately with others, never out of turn. Quietly making them money and not organising a revolution. Get back to your Espace and go home to your silly maternal walking, functioning egg-wives and make kids for them to teach how to make them money when they are older. Never mind yourself, feed the chicks.

Cattle. Some people are free of all such shite however and by free, I mean free.

Im the joint tenant of a pub in Oxford, and I will say that as long as you have a half decent location, it is entirely in your hands if you sink or swim. There are some god awful pubs out there, awful beer, crap uninterested barmen etc. It is up to the pubs to be a good place to be. I would also say that in many areas there are perhaps to many pubs to be viable, something has to give.

One last point - many people would'nt know a good pub if it kicked them in the nuts, hence awful town centre pubs are always busy.

It's 2.50 a pint in my local, so I just go in with 6 cans in a bag, order a pint of water and fill the glass with my "offy" bought ale.

I don't really but if the price goes up any more I might.

Going the pub beats staying in hands down though.

I mostly stay in on a friday evening or saturday evening (the very few ones I have free, so not often) and drink. Only when I'm gigging with the band I can class it as 'being out for a drink'.

The truth is I can't afford to pub it anymore, just those special occasions which is really crap. Just one of those things. Know it's a social thing really, but it's impossible to be able to afford a night in a pub for me.

Not bothered about the smoking ban in the slightest, has never affected my enjoyment of night out since the ban.
