This only works if you do animal noises.

A chicken goes into a library and says "book"

So the librarian gives it a book.

The next day the chicken comes back and says "book. book."

So the librarian gives it two books.

The next day the chicken comes back and says "book. book. book."

The librarian gives it three books, but by now he's a bit curious, so he follows the chicken.

The chicken goes back to the farm and goes straight to the frogpond and gives the books to a big old bullfrog who says "readit. readit. readit."

I find it highly unlikely that this chicken would know to a) enter a library,

b) know what the word book means

c) have the physical capabilities with it's beak to say this word.

d) lets not even start on the frog.

Surely, even if we concede that be chance the Chicken does keep turning up at the library, the idea falls down when we are expected to believe it has the capability to carry not just one, but three, books.

Why? If it can manage a dog I'm sure it can manage some books.

Would a librarian just hand him any book? Surely it is his or her duty to try and illicit a preference of book genre and subsequently a field and specific area, even if it is to be believed; a chicken.

This is just getting less and less believable by the second.
