James Milner

NEWCASTLE winger James Milner is a shock target for Rafa Benitez in a player swap deal.

The Geordies are interested in five Liverpool first-teamers, with John Arne Riise and Jermaine Pennant top of their list.

And Benitez is ready to negotiate an exchange with 22-year-old Milner heading to Anfield.

Milner moved to St James’ Park from Leeds in 2004, and also enjoyed a successful loan spell at Aston Villa, but despite his potential as a teenager he has never made the step up many expected.

Liverpool’s interest in the wide man underlines where Benitez’ priorities lie as he looks to raise funds and juggle his squad with wheeling and dealing.

With Gareth Barry and Borussia Dortmund’s Phillip Degen also among his targets, a summer of exciting purchases does not appear to be on the Anfield agenda.

Norwegian Riise is thought to favour a move to the North East.

He held talks with Benitez last week and was told he can leave Liverpool. Riise was offered to Aston Villa as part of the Barry deal, but will consider his options.

Milner sure fits in perfectly with what Elisha Scott said: A surprising signing for the wing, more consistent than Pennant with slightly worse technique than Jermainia.

The good CV bit, he menitioned could be that Milner is one of the youngest players ever to play in the premiership.

With 2 goals in 25 league starts he would really make us more of a threat going forward, particulalrly with Philip Degen overlapping at RB.

Heard a swiss journo on talkshite stating he's an inexperienced under 21 player, whos been out injured for a while :whoops:

I heard my head say "Terry, you really should tone down your ego. It's unjustified."

And yet here I am. Ruling totally at making judgements on players I've never seen. While all the time looking suave and dapper.

Where's it from? Ted has posed the question on behalf of the masses and we need to know.

Ted of Tedshire, I might add.

Don't worry. We've got stepover king Gareth Barry on the left wing with Arbeloa bombing ahead of him from the fullback position.
