Really like the looks of the Mandalorian.

Just watched Rise of Skywalker again and it's a decent adventure film, reminds me of a kids' rollercoaster.

What the Mandalorian (from what I've seen of the trailers/clips) and Rogue One did well was concentrated on the human stories with space as a backdrop, rather than make them about wacky aliens and the force.

Rogue one didn't really have any aliens in at all, but when The Last Jedi came out it was prequels-esque in its overuse of daft rubbery aliens in casinos and whatnot.

It’s basically influenced by Westerns with elements of High Noon, The Magnificent Seven and The Man With No Name films; plus a side order of heist and prison break movies. The original film was heavily influenced by western and Samurai narratives with a B movie feel and Jon Favreau has basically returned Star Wars to its roots. In other words, it’s fucking great.

Academy Award® winner Taika Waititi, who recently won Best Adapted Screenplay for Jojo Rabbit and directed the widely-acclaimed first season finale episode of The Mandalorian on Disney+, will direct and co-write a new Star Wars feature film for theatrical release.

Joining Waititi on the screenplay will be Academy Award® nominee Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917, Last Night in Soho), who received a BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Film of the Year on the three-time Oscar-winning film, 1917.

In addition, Emmy®-nominated writer Leslye Headland (Russian Doll, Bachelorette) is currently developing a new untitled Star Wars series for Disney+. Headland will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner for the series, which adds to a growing list of Star Wars stories for Disney’s streaming platform including The Mandalorian, now in post-production on Season Two, and two other previously announced series: one based on Cassian Andor’s life prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and another following the adventures of Obi-Wan Kenobi between Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: A New Hope.

Release dates for both Waititi’s and Headland’s projects have not yet been announced.

I think The Mandalorian is pure Lone Wolf and Cub.

Now ROS is on Disney +, I’m seeing lots of “correct” order to watch the films in posts.

Here’s the correct answer...

1. Rogue One

2. A New Hope Star Wars

3. Empire Strikes Back

4. Return Of The Jedi

...fuck the rest of it. I quite like TFA but given the next 2 instalments aren't up to much, there is no point watching it.

Fixed that for you.

Taika Waititi is quality.

He's ace, enjoyed most of his stuff, 'What we do in the Shadows' being my favourite.

Same as you, loved the originals as kid, prequels were terrible.

Give the recent 3 a watch though- very good all 3 of them.

I think if George Lucas had told the Star wars saga with the Phantom Menace first barely anyone would have been arsed about star wars or to have the patience to wait until a New Hope.

Watched Rise of Skywalker yesterday. Went into it with really low expectations after The Last Jedi, but actually quite enjoyed it.

The Last Jedi fucked everything up really, it was basically the third act even though it was supposed to be the second (killing Snoke, killing Phasma and the vast majority of the Rebellion). Rise of Skywalker basically set out to correct all of its mistakes.

(1) We killed our villain - fuck, bring back the Emperor

(2) Rey is a nobody - shit, let's make her his granddaughter

(3) Hux is shite and camp as fuck, let's bring in Richard E Grant and get him to shoot him in the bollocks

(4) Rose is shite - stick her in the background

What happened to the First Order then? The bad guys in RoS are The Final Order but no one mentions the villains from the first 2 films of this trilogy!!

The first order are Richard E Grant's chaps and the final order are the ones with the red helmets who've seemingly all been training underground and learning Queen's English on the Emperor's planet.

Lucasfilm are still explaining Rise of Skywalker even now.

You're not going to get much backstory with a film that has the shortest opening crawl in any of the series.

This is pretty accurate.

Ha, ha, ha!!! Very good.

The new Star Wars films suffer because they basically took everything that was accomplished in the first films - the redemption of Anakin Skywalker, the defeat of the Empire and the death of the Emperor - and rendered them pretty pointless really. The First Order are just cosplayers of the Empire mashed up with the Spaceballs and never feel like actual villains, just a gang of douchebags in jodhpurs and massive hats.

It feels like each of the new trilogy left too much unexplained and that the scripts were written with an eye on what would be cool rather than having an actual story and stitching together a series of these scenes. The original films are really economical. They hint at back story (clone wars, that bounty hunter on Ord Mantell etc) without them having a massive impact on the story contained within each episode. The new ones seem to rely upon you having filled in the backstory by reading around them.

One other thing that really gets on my nerves about all of the recent Star Wars productions is the constant look of awe on everyone's face, coupled with the knowing nods to the fans. Also, given that Tatooiine is the furthest you could be from the bright centre of the universe, I'm sick of the fucking place. No wonder Luke wanted to bail.

But then again, Star Wars is not aimed at 41 year old me. 7 year old me would probably have loved it.

Plus, the prequels (not seen the new trilogy) don’t look or feel like the original films.

Personally I would hire 10000 bulldozers and dig the biggest hole this world has ever seen and then get every piece of Star Wars paraphernalia and movie and spin off and remake and director's cut and then bury the cunts within said hole.

Put an end to this money driven capitalist madness and reinvest the money saved into some brand new, fresh, imaginative drama with quality and depth of character.

In these dark times I speak the truth which you need to hear. The spark in the wilderness. Fuck Star Wars.

Couldn't agree more, my niece's ex got a cob on with me a few years ago, FB I know, but he posted something about the bird who acted in it and died I never had a clue who Princess Leah was and he seemed to be offended by it, he's nearly 40.

If a new movie come out she had to go along to please him, had all kinds of games he used to play, no wonder she fucked him off.

A couple of lads I used to work with bought themselves fucking light sabres ffs.

One of the lads is around 45, the other mid 30's. That fucking gimp moved to Cardiff and joined an international light sabre sporting club where they presumably dress up in dressing gowns and go round making funny noises whilst whacking each other with sticks.
