Athens Greece

My wife (and no, you're not getting a picture) and daughter (don't go there either) are planning a trip to Athens; they want to stay about 4-6 days.

Any good hotel recommendations, beaches in the area, sights to see. They are planning to go around October and want to fly out of Paris-- so what would be a good airline?

Thanks,

I'll tell you for a picture of your wife. And I know a flight route too, I'm not kidding.

Went for my birthday in July 2006. The Acropolis is good, although a bit of a hike, inghtlife is ok, nothing special though, head to an area called Plaka for bars and decent places to eat. You can get the Metro to most places of interest, but a lot is centred around the main squares. I stayed in a hotel near Sytagma square which cost me about 40 Euros per night, was right by the Metro and had a roof top garden where we watched the footy and had a great night-time view of the Acropolis.

Good trips apart from teh Acropolis are to Monastiraki flea market where you can shop without getting shafted, also try to go to Cape Sounion, just out of the city and has great views of the coast and city. Piraeus is good for an afternoon out if you like your seafood even though the place resembles Seaforth Docks.

Word of warning though, I thought Athens was very expensive, don't bother doing any clothes/aftershave/perfume shopping there as everything seemed about 10-15 Euros more expensive than even France and Italy.

I went on Easyjet from Luton for about 60 quid - probably of no use to your wife whatsoever though!
