I think the stats was direct from a corner. And Westham scored a penalty not a corner.

 

Did`nt Everton score from a corner though?...although it beeing a Sami own goal, maybe it doesnt count in the stats??

Not really... Bad marking from a corner was when Havant scored. Rooney made a superb run to be fair and the marker simply wouldn't get there in time to stop it.

Nicely worked corner last night with a quick ball to Finnan on the edge of the box, who then fed Dirk to set up Sami for a header.

 

Besides that though, nothing too encouraging.

 

Aurelio certainly isn't the answer to our problems here either.

We just need to realised that we dont have a Beckham or a Juninho and instead of just shooting why not float it it. We bring JC and Sami up only to shoot were inevitably ends up in the crowd.

set peices yesterday were apauling again, which is something we really should be concentrating on in training. It appeared a few weeks (months?) back that we were having success with corners to the near post with Sami either flicking on or heading at goal, but now we seem so concerned with trying this that the first man is clearing it every time.

 

we should spend time in every training session working on this as while we are struggling for chances set pieces are possibly a key area for us.

Aurelio has the skill but he doesn't seem to put enough pace on the ball to really make them count. He'd really have to catch the keeper out.

Im not a big fan of the guy to be honest. Hopefully he will stay fit and start to perform but as it is I havent seen anything that makes me think he is going to command the Liverpool left back slot for years to come. Im more than willing to be prevoed wrong though!!

 

ps thought finnan was excellent last night - back to his best.

It's not just set pieces, our crossing in general is poor and lacks conviction. Lost count how many times last night we got into good wide positions and the ball just cannoned off the first man.

Anyone know if statistics show that we have more success with corners from the left or right... I'm thinking left myself - Like someone said, Sami had a spell of attempts and flick ons from that side a few weeks back.

Made me think thats how we could play withouth wingers if out full backs could get up and down like last night every game.
