Set pieces

Not a bitch and a moan; just a request for a reminder: when did we last have a consistently dangerous set piece taker? Our corners have been poo for years - there isn't a player in the squad who can whip a dangerous ball into the box. Free kicks - we've had a few good 'uns (Gerrard and JAR), but no-one consistently great for years. And finally penalities: both Gerrard and Owen have been variable. Who's the last "in the corners" penalty taker we had?

Answer.....2001, Gary Mac. He took the corners, Babbel on the near post with the flick on with Sami and Gerrard running on to them from the penalty spot....we scored quite a few from that system, its an area that has been badly neglected for a long time.

That's a hard one, Macca and Redknapp weren't too bad at corners and Fowler used to get a fair few from their balls in.

Free kicks though I genuinely can't remember, Hamman started the LFC tradition of whacking the ball hard at the wall and we've kept faith with that particular tactic ever since.

I've said this for a couple of years: get Gerrard standing just outside the box for second balls at corners and in the mixer for his aerial ability on free kicks. He should never take any set piece other than a free-kick in a great position to shoot from, or the odd penalty.

Doesn't matter, we continue to it the first man, corners and free kicks, no matter who takes it. Finding out where to place Gerrard is further down the list of what to do at set pieces.
