Absolutely no point in selling Riise until we have got ourselves a top quality left back. Aurelio is even worse than Riise and Arbeloa is better on the right. Until we can find ourselves a better left back, we should keep Riise.

Spot on - but would have Owen back - even half a season will score more than Voronin or Kuyt

This rumor wont go away, JAR's agent must be working full time!

"Riise to join Toon Army?

Wednesday 16 Apr 2008

Liverpool left-back John Arne Riise has not been offered a new deal at Anfield, which has sparked rumours of a move to Newcastle United.

The Norweigan has been left frustrated this season, playing second fiddle to Fabio Aurelio, who Rafael Benitez has favoured in the left-back role.

Kevin Keegan has made sorting out that position a main priority in the summer, having been less than impressed with current player, Jose Enrique.

Money will not be a problem for Keegan, who has the full backing of multi-millionaire owner, Mike Ashley. A projected fee of £5 million would be enough to persuade Liverpool to sell their unsettled star, whose contract expires in 2009."

Assuming Rafa has someone lined up to take over, they can have him for that price. But it's not exactly an option to go into next season with Aurelio as first choice.

I agree, Aurelio is decent cover, no more.

Now is probably the ideal time to cash in on Riise though, his value is probably at its high point now.

What's this Insua kid like? Have heard good reports. Is he ready to step in? And can anyone offer a view on who he most resembles in terms of style of play, quality etc... (I don't get LFC.TV and don't get a chane to get along to the reserve games) Ta;)

You jest, but Riise has actually got a very good reputation amongst other clubs fans, it's mainly just us lot who dont rate him all that highly as we see him through a microscope, so maybe we should stand firm a bit. There would be a few clubs in for him.

I think that's probably the case. We're pretty harsh on him, but he's not as good as others (who still recall his goals) imagine...

Aurelio is a good player. Now he's had a run without rotation or injuries, I think that's clear.
