Tenet.

Just watched this for the first time ever.

I say watched, the last 25 minutes or so was just it on in the background as I’d pretty much lost all interest in it by then.

It’s just all a bit daft. I’m not a genius. Not thick (some may disagree!) but, unless I’m missing something, this film made no to very little sense whatsoever. A film and director that/who were/was trying to be a bit too clever for their/its own good.

Relatively poor acting/characters too, in particular the main good guy - the Protagonist - and Kenneth Brannagh’s hysterically bad angry, shouty Russian bloke.

The poor sound made it even more difficult to follow. Muffled, mumbled dialogue and the background music and sounds were often too loud and drowned out the already awful dialogue levels.

A couple of half decent action scenes. Otherwise, it was downright awful.

2 out of 10.

Pretty much sums that film up.

As for poor sound, it's the same problem with most of his films, this was related to Batmam,

One Warner Bros. source working on the film told the Hollywood Reporter that he was “scared to death” about “the Bane problem”, but the director was adamant that he would not budge on the voice mix. He explained that it was fine for audiences not to hear every line as long as the overall idea was conveyed. In other words: don’t try to understand it, feel it.

Pretensious prick!

I tend to like all Nolan’s films, I really didn’t like Tenet.

A film of somebody who disappeared up his own bum hole for a film, luckily he only stayed up there that film and Oppenheimer brought him back out.

Hopefully he stays out of there for The Odyssey as well.

The zone of interest

Incredibly unsettling film about a family who live just outside the walls of auschwitz and are completely disconnected from the horrors being inflicted

It doesn't reallyshow you anything but the sounds in the background are an ever present reminder.

Oodles of festive fun

9/10

Sandra Haller is an incredible actress.

Incredibly oppressive and bleak film with some ingenious shots and cinematography.

Tenet is one of those films that is too clever for its own good, and not as clever as it thinks it is. It's the first Nolan production that I haven't rated. With that said, I've only watched it once, and it may benefit from repeat viewings.

That sums up all of Nolan for me.

Didn't like Tenet when I first saw it. Then I watched it a couple of years later and did like it-  seconds time round i just watched it for the effects and action and enjoyed it more. I think even Nolan knew the story was nonsense so just tried to make it with style over substance.

Same with Dunkirk - first time was expecting some Spielberg type wild action film. Disappointed. Watched again a few years later and just tried to concentrate on the characters and timeline and enjoyed it a lot more.

Anyway, speaking of disappointing films....

Blitz - the recent one. 6/10. Who knows, maybe I'll watch it in a few years and like it.

Tenet reminded me of his last two Batman efforts, to be honest.

Specifically the all action, bish, bash, bosh, grab you by the balls opening scenes, followed by a bit of a tailing off in the quality and excitement levels. Although the drop off in Tenet is much more dramatic than the Batmans.

Dark Knight Rises is exceptional, the 3rd one yeah.

The Dark Knight is a fucking brilliant film, as is Inception.

I generally really enjoy Nolan films as he at least tries to make cinema interesting and different.

Tenet was a misstep. It does mostly make sense if you sit and run it through - but it’s not worth the time for the storyline, and the end battle is overly ambitious and too confusing. I said at the time that it would have benefitted from being a TV series with 6-8 episodes to give it the room it needed, but you couldn’t fault the ambition.

Silent Bite - 1/10. Lame low-rent rerun of From Dusk to Dawn plot as bank robbers lay low in an empty hotel and face off against the second worst film vampires in history.  I don’t even know how I made it to the end but it did the job of making me sleepy.
