I've not really made my mind up about the film, I enjoyed it but it was a bit of a mess really, maybe overly ambitious.

 

I read somewhere the music was supposed to reflect some underground music played at the time which didn't really find its way to records, but that may be just an excuse for not having to make it sound like Sidney Bechet or Bix Beiderbecke.

 

But it fits into this idea of the film that Hollywood was in the late silent and early talkies pre-code era much "hotter", libertarian, decadent place underground than we usually imagine that time to be.

Netflix film about the Prince Andrew interview. Thought it was really well done. Rufus Sewell absolutely superb as Prince Sex Pest. Gillian Anderson good as Emily Maitlis as well. Always nice to have a cheeky look at Billie Piper and Keeley Hawes. 7.5/10

Fuck me, that was an intense experience. My head is still booming from it. 

 

Jesse Plemons walks away with the whole film in a 5 minute scene.

Gbostbusters frozen empire. Total mess of a film but worth watching only for the nostalgia factor (which they of course depend on).

 

There's about 15 characters in it but only one isn't a helmet and gets shit done, Egon's granddaughter. The rest just hang around saying Marvel movie style unfunny quips.

He's pretty much great in everything, very good actor, remember him in Friday Night Lights and it was clear he was levels above the other kids in it.

Took the kids to see this today & have to agree with every word. Paul Rudd is just annoying in it.

 

The last film was good but I think it's time to put it to bed now.

Civil War - 7/10

 

Strange one to rate this. I found the first half of the film very tedious, as the protagonists aren't very likeable and there is zero narrative of what they are fighting about, which is kind of the point of the movie I grasped. A snapshot into what a civil war would be like, with people not truly sure which side they are on and the reasons why.

 

The action scenes are phenomenal though.

 

It was very artsy and lacking any real context, which I felt made for a worse film than it could have been.

 

Well worth watching though and making up your own mind.

Looking forward to watching civil war, I imagine it's a bit like season 2 of Jericho.

He's fantastic. He's great playing horrible bastards though, Todd was the most interesting villain in Breaking Bad because of him.

That, to me, was the point of the film. They even say it explicitly. The journos aren't there to take sides, just to give you the information to make a decision.

 

It's interesting that there's no definite 'good guys' in the film.

Troubled Chicago cop Samuel L Jackson goes to Edinburgh to help out with an investigation into a grisly serial killer, the crimes bearing a striking similarity to those from his own patch years earlier.

 

A fine cast with Vincent Cassal and John Hannah fails to elevate this from anything more than mundane.

Lo-fi retro looking indie psychological horror type thing. I'd heard Kermode quite liked it. Nice premise, but it tips its hand too early, and the reveal lacks impact. All a bit meh really. Needed more time grounding the characters and building tension.

 

Good turn from the - now adult - kid from Where The Wild Things Are though, and nice to see a protagonist on a BMX.

As far as I recall, it's true except he made Adam Driver's character Jewish which he wasn't, toned down that the white guy did all the dangerous work and that the black guy was mostly doing the undercover work against the Black Panther Party, including the infamous agent provocateur stuff and entrapment.

Yeah, that's the one. Young lad works in the family morgue, thinks he's going to kill someone, then a bunch of murders happen and he gets intrigued.

If I remember correctly, my stand outs were the scene with Harry Bellafonte and any scene with Laura Harrier
