I watched this on your recommendation. Not bad and Mads is always worth a watch but a bit stupid for the most part. 6.5 or 7 rotten apples out of 10 apple trees.

Oppenheimer. 9/10. 

 

Brilliant. The tension building up to the test in the desert was outstanding, fantastic acting throughout as well. Superb cast, brilliantly shot. I didn't think it dragged on too much like people have said and also didn't mind them jumping back and forth. Once you knew who belonged where it was easy enough to follow. Cillian Murphy was great. I was gutted I didn't catch this at the pictures at the time but apart from the middle which I'm sure was great on the big screen it wouldn't have really been much different. 

 

Oh and I was a bit disappointed with Florence Pugh's chebs if I'm honest. Her bum is off the chart so I won't add or take away any points.

Watched a few ‘meh’ films over the weekend. 
 

The Kill Room 4/10.

 

Uma Thurman is an art dealer who gets involved in a scam with a hitman to sell his paintings. Stupid and entirely forgettable.

 

Dumb Money 6/10.

 

Decent enough, not particularly funny given the cast. Doesn’t dive into the shadiness of Wall St enough. Ultimately, a less good version of The Big Short.

 

Kill The Irishman 5/10.

 

Gangster movie about Danny Greene in Ohio. Given have the cast were either in Goodfellas or Sopranos, it’s hard not to think of those pieces of art. With a better director (ie Scorese) it could have been up there with them, an unfortunately it comes across as a cheap imitation.

Revolver. Just finished watching it. Fucking hell - Guy Ritchie minus the humour. Or fun. Or coherent narrative. 2/10. And that's for some woman with a lollipop who flashes her knickers.

Organ Trail 2/10.

 

Badly paced, mostly badly acted western. A girls family are ambushed and she is kidnapped. The captors turn on each other and it has an utterly ridiculous ending. Poor stuff.

Kill The Irishman was the one with the late Ray Hutchison,who was a good actor. I agree with your assessment of it having potential but getting nowhere near it.

At least you managed to finish it, I gave up the other week about halfway through capitulating after the third atempt to at least try to suffer it to the end in installments.  

 

And the first two Ritchies didn't really stand the test of time for me recently. Lock Stock is trying very hard and Snatch is the same film, only with much stronger cast. He writes about a dozen characters and then tries to make two or three story lines out of them, which are supposed to come together or at least cross paths toward the end to give it all some coherence. It looked like something new and fresh at the time, now is mostly annoying.

Five Nights At Freddy’s - 1/10.

 

I know it’s based on a VR horror game that seems to be well thought of, but this wastes a reasonably decent cast. It’s a load of guff and not remotely scary.

 

And Cage got their first with Willy’s Wonderland, and while not great, it was better than this.

Snatch is still very good IMO. RockNRolla is better than both. Cracking film that.

Have not seen it, wanted to go through most of Richie's films this year but Revolver made me pause and reconsider, as in how long do I have left to live and how will I waste that time best. I'd agree Snatch is best of the early work.

I quite enjoyed Ritchie's Wrath of Man a bit back. Not a stellar film, but solidly entertaining. Mind you, I also liked The Gentlemen which everyone here seems to hate...

Saltburn - 8/10

 

Dark comedy/thriller starring Barry Keogh. It's a wonderfully crafted film. It's very weird in places but also very funny. I'm not sure it'll be everyone's cup of tea but I thought it was great.

Him and the director of the sixth sense are still invited out based on their early work. Not seen rocknrolla as the name always put me off. I might give it a whirl. Wrath of Man was decent, the others a bit meh.

I saw about half of Lock Stock years ago & have absolutely no interest in watching any other Guy Ritchie films.
