The Green Knight

 

A new take on the Arthurian legend of the fabled Green Knight who intrudes one Christmas Day to lay down his challenge before the court. The cowardly nephew Dev Patel accepts said challenge and we go from there...

 

A very interesting film, dark and broody, weird and trippy, it looks fantastic but be warned it's very slow.

 

I really enjoyed The Green Knight and Alicia Vikander is rather gorgeous.

Let Him Go - Drama with Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as a couple whose son dies in an accident and their daughter-in-law remarries a complete prick, who then moves her and their grandson across to North Dakota. It's low-key for large portions punctuated with very big moments. Enjoyed it, liked both leads and it was very satisfying. 8 out of 10

Just started watching a film on Netflix called 'The Guilty' and immediately realised it's a Hollywood copy of a Norwegian film.The Norwegian film was excellent, but I'm not sure I can rewatch a US copy of the same thing. Watch the Norwegian one called 'Den Skyldige' instead.

A group of families win holidays at an idyllic resort and go for a day trip to the private beach...

 

One of M. Night Shyamalamalan's better efforts. A very interesting concept but with average execution. A good cast tries it's best.

The Many Saints Of Newark - 6.5/10. Felt incomplete. I think it may have worked better as a limited tv miniseries and the story expanded. A bit disappointing really.

I just have to say that Sofia Vergara cannot act. 

 

She's absolutely woeful. 

 

I cannot emphasize enough just how bad an actor she is.

 

She's okay in the TV show, but I can only assume it's because she's playing herself.

 

I'm watching her in something called "Bent" and she's making a marginally watchable movie a bit of an ordeal.

 

So.

 

"Bent": marginally watchable, except for the bits with Sofia Vergara in them.

Free Guy 8/10. Just finished watching it. A great Saturday morning film with one scene in particular that had me screaming with laughter.

 

It also solidified my love of Jodie Comer. Pure marriage material, bluenose or not

The new Bond - 10/10. Absolutely fantastic. Best one yet, for me. Brilliant way to close the Daniel Craig era.

No Time To Die - 8/10.

 

I still think Casino Royale is Craig's finest, and I would place Skyfall just ahead of this one too but it was excellent in its own right. Loads of nods to past Bonds, a prepostorous take-over-the-world scheme, a caricature of a main villain, barnstorming action sequences, important character's own story arcs finishing, and very few moments of humour. The biggest thing to take away from it is that we are shown a very different side to Bond, and it makes sense given how Craig's Bond has been more humanised than previous versions. He's had a very good run, with much more consistency across his films than Moore and Brosnan.

Spectre was so astoundingly tedious that it has put me off watching this new Bond film, and i loved Casino Royale and Skyfall. Didn't even mind Quantum of Solace either.

No Time To Die - 7/10

 

Judged purely on the movie in its own right as I've hardly watched any of the other Bonds. Great start, meandered during the middle but the pay off was very good.

 

Think they massively underused the main baddie though.
