I watched a movie called 'The Rider' tonight - it received glorious reviews all around but I struggled to really enjoy it as it seems quite a dark natured movie while not really very much happens. Cowboy injures his head which makes it hard for him to keep riding horses but he does his best with not a huge amount of incident.

Perhaps I don't have an appreciation for this type of film.

5 Cows out of 10 Boys.

The Rider 7/10.

A bit "sundancy" but OK. Nonprofessional actors, slow moving but poignant, with an authentic feel. Not for when you just want to be entertained.

Dragged Across Concrete

Mel Gibson and Vince fucking Vaughan star in this brutal and overly long police caper. Enjoyable but not worth a 2nd viewing imo.

7/10

Halfway through this and it's boring me to tears, very disappointing.

The Silence - 2/10.

There's so many issues with this film with regards to the sound. Apparently those bird things can hear someone walking on gravel yet are oblivious when there's a huge fight going on underneath them.

Complete bullshit film, wouldn't even recommend to yer nan.

Green Book 7.5 /10.

Would probably rate it higher if it wasn't officially proclaimed best film of the year, which it isn't but it's entirely OK.

Enjoyable if a bit conventional road movie about the unlikely friendship with very good actors. A bit too sentimental at times.

Us - 8/10. A fresh, brilliantly acted, funny and scary horror film. The use of 'I got 5 on it' is genius, the penultimate scene steals the show.

I thought that started well but descended into a bit of a mess. 6/10.

Agree about the use of that song, very well done.

Shazam! - 8/10. Massively entertaining. Never ever hides from the fact it's a bit silly, and wears its heart on its sleeve proudly. Loved the Big reference.

The boardroom scene was completely unexpected though. My nephew wasn't keen on that bit, it shit him right up.

Julian Assange: Risk

Documentary film, on the beeb last night. Quite possibly the dullest documentary I've ever seen; half an hour of content stretched out over 90 minutes, filmed on a potato and with one uni-directional mic inserted into Assange's anus. Lots of long shots, that seem to intimate some intense moment of self reflection or indicating a personality complex, but then you realise it's just a fella getting his hair cut, or lying on the beach. There were some interesting points lying beneath the surface, but they were never explored in depth. Really disappointing from a film-maker who's supposedly decent in this field.

3/10

Agree with that.

My son didn't want to go - but I told him it looked like it might be good.

He eventually thought it might be better than being at home fighting with me about not being allowed to play xbox all day.

He loved it.

You Were Never Really Here. 8/10.

Arty-drama-action: Joaquin Phoenix plays a man who gets paid off the books for rescuing kidnapped children, using only his fists and a hammer. Lives with and loves his elderly mum.

My only criticism would be there's no real denouement - the film doesn't peak when you think it does, more a long draw to the end. Pretty enigmatic. Phoenix is brilliant and the cinematography is dizzying. Radiohead's Johnny Greenwood supplies the soundtrack, which is as wacky as the film itself.

Not as good as Taxi Driver or Drive, but definitely worth a watch.
