Gangster Squad - 7.5/10

 

This film is not a bad film but then again you wont remember it in a few years time. The film has the potential to be a bloody brilliant film. It has the cast and the story of cops and Mafia bad guys. The story is really not that great and as such the film suffers. If it wasn't for the fact that Emma Stone is in it I would have given it a 5.5/10.

I watched the William Friedkin film Cruising last night. I have to say it's one of the strangest and at times most unintentionally hilarious films i've ever seen. Apparently it was controversial at the time, due to its depiction of gays as leather clad psychotics. Anyway, would have given it a 5/10, but this scene bumped it up to a 6.....

Whilst I wouldn't say it was terrible, I agree with Saxon that it could have been so much better with a decent script.

 

4/10 for me.

The Company you Keep - 6/10. Terrible script, plodding pace and a completely unbelievable series of events. Could have been made into a great thriller, but sadly signposted the ending early on. A shame, as it had an unbelievable cast.

On ITV2 tonight and with fuck all else on decided to give it another blast. Completely absurd, over-the-top homoerotic wargasm. But entertaining and stupidly daft with it. Enjoyable watch on a Friday night with a beer. 7/10

I'll give it a try eventually because reviews seem to imply it's pretty good. I'm just always cautious about watching modern horror films because more often than not I find them shite.

Trance.

 

In many ways this is a typical Danny Boyle film; bounding along with energy and verve, colourful and gorgeous, great soundtrack, but at the same time Trance was also strangely reminiscent of Hitchcock.

 

All of which is good. Very good.

 

Loved Trance, re-emphasises why Danny Boyle is probably my favourite director working today.

 

Best film I've seen all year. Gonna watch it again tomorrow.

Pacific Rim 7/10

 

If I was judging it on acting performances and script, it would be minus numbers. But hey, you pays your money. And I've just watched giant robots beating the shit out of giant monsters (and vice versa) for two hours. Good stuff.

Only God Forgives- hard to rate this as i'm not sure what i just watched. I assume that Refn is taking the piss. It's either a 1/10 or a 10/10. Saying that i'll give it a 7. That makes no sense whatsoever, much like the film.

Flight - 8.5/10.

 

Wasn't really sure what to expect with this film but was very pleased. There is a very good story and although the film is on for 2 hours it goes very quick. Well worth a watch!

Devils rejects is not too bad, worth a watch, a lot better than 1000 corpses.

 

I prefer House of 1000 corpses myself. They're both good though.

 

Mother (2009) - Korean thriller. Pretty darn good. I'd say 8/10
