I've fallen down a youtube "fake Beatles" hole here and the levels that some cranks will go to are amazing. This nutjob thinks that not only Paul died in 1966 and was replaced, but that all four of them were at some stage in the 60's. Oh God, the replies...

Great that this came out - it was awesome.

A few opinions:

Billy Preston makes the whole thing work. Sad as it seems this would have fell on its face without him - he engaged Lennon.

The sheer amount of writing hit after hit they have gotten through by then is laid bare - they are dredging up material from the 50's and piecing sections of old tunes together - amazing,

That said, McCartneys work rate at this point is either for the cameras or off the charts. Pretty much every minute he is on film is him playing/singing/writing.

I think from the way it has been edited, it looks like things started to pick up when they moved to Apple & they were already moving in the right direction when Preston turned up. Clearly he made a big difference but I don't think everything completely changed the minute he walked through the door.

The album George produced for him in '69 was good btw.

Damn, it's not extended in anyway!

I don't think it's set in stone yet but looking unlikely.

Some IMAX showings of the rooftop concert are scheduled for 30th January too I think. That would be magic.

Billy Preston's keyboard playing really set up 'Get Back' to be the classic it is. He elevated the session by adding that extra layer to everything else that was going on. His personality, outwardly happy and smiling, seemed to help calm some of the tension between the other band members. His presence worked an absolute treat.

There's an obituary in the Times today for Ken Essex a Violist, George Martin brought him in to play on Yesterday but McCartney wasnt keen " No George, We're a rock 'n' roll band, not a good idea" until he heard him.

He seemed to have a great career as a Violist, and worth a read, youve heard him on Fawlty Towers amongst other things.

Why didn't they put the full rooftop gig on the super deluxe reissue?

I wanted to listen to the whole thing today, but the closest thing is playing the film through my speaker. But it's occasionally interrupted by the interviewer and the goings on with the police in the office reception. I'd just like to play the thing from start to finish (I realise tracks are repeated but that's fine by me). I have an old bootleg of the gig but the quality is nowhere near the latest stuff. I think it's a missed opportunity.
