I think you could be right. I was thinking it could have been done through the dish, but I suppose the dish picks up all signals regardless and it's the box that decides whether you can view it or not.

 

That would be my guess too. In short, you want to change your box settings (including to allow a ppv), you need a phone line.

You just give them your card number for ppv and they unblock it from their end. I never had a phone line from the day I had sky installed and I had several ppv events. Wrestlemania, The Royal Rumble - you know.

 

Really? My in-laws removed their phone line and couldn't order Prem plus games, although I can't remember if we phoned Sky or just tried with the remote.

Yeah use the phone. Put the mouth piece by your mouth and the ear piece near your ear. The remote looks similar, but you'll never get through on it.
