Finished reading this book last week. Very interesting read and couldn't put it down. Didn't realise that Toxteth was such a dangerous place in the 90's. Someone should buy the rights for this book because it would make a fantastic film.

That's what I thought when I read it, throw in the police and Liverpool City Council corruption angle and you've got potential of Wire/Shield proportions.

Some of the characters in it are unreal, like those twins from toxteth who used to speak like Chris Eubank (that's how I imagined them anyway "extremely well spoken and wearing tailored clothes") and play chess with each other. One was a bodybuilder and the other was the brains.

I remember watching a programme about Toxteth many years ago with one of thoe twins in it (The Brains).

Would make a great TV Show. It would be too big a story for a movie.

Read this on my honeymoon a good few years back. excellent read. Agree there is a great film or series in it.

He got caught out by phone intercepts recorded by the Dutch police. Even though they spoke perfect English they couldn't understand half of what was said because him and his lackies back in Liverpool spoke such an incomprehensible scouse slang. They talked for hours and hours about birds and tits and who had shagged who and these endless transcripts were pored over by 11 QCs in the Warrior/DCI Ellie Davies trial that was all tied in with Warren. Good work if you can get it. In fact from 1995 to 2000 virtually every major drugs conspiracy trial in Liverpool was linked to Warren.

Is this his own book? Criminals should not be rewarded financially by bragging about their crimes in print or elsewhere. Isn't that an incentive to the wankers we have already selling the stuff on the streets, Sell drugs-maybe get caught- get caught- do little time- sell book!

Scumbag shouldn't even be out yet. Mass drug dealing and murder and out in less than 15years. MMmmmm. (cough) "Backhander".

Yep, the Showers brothers - one was called Delroy, can't remember his brothers name. It had lots of random characters in it, like the guy who went on Caribbean cruises and claimed benefits, the guy who used to travel down to London every other day with £250,000 in his sports bag to change at the Turkish guy's bureau de change to launder cash and the two brothers who went to Sydney to sell Warren's gear in Oz. The film would end up being longer than Casino or the Godfather. It also implies in the book that a lot of the bars/clubs/restaurants in Liverpool that suddenly sprung up were funded by drug money.

Nope - all done from police records, press reports etc. He was offered a million pounds whilst in prison by a publisher to write a book but he said no because he reckoned no one would believe half the stuff he would come out with.

I'd still give it a read, I didn't think Curtis Warren was as influential or as dangerous as I thought he was before Iread it.

Maybe I will then Doc, if Firemarshall has a copy of it, he might have as he's read it, I'll cadge it off him and report back.

Get yersel that Ripper book from Asda, you will be glad you did...Michael Bilton is the author.

He definately shows a violent streek when he's younger in the book, but after that it seems its all purely about his brain rather than intimidation.

Nobody, even the people he worked with, ever seemed to suss how high-up in that world he was, and he also had a photographic memory and never wrote any numbers down.

Is there anything more intrigueing/worrying than a dangerous criminal with a resiously sharp mind?

it doesn't mention much about him fighting and battering people in it during his drug career, plus he was able to maintain good relationships with the people he did business with. The Dutch police were never able to track down where all the money went as he never kept records of it. He once said to his helicopter instructor that he owned Barrow FC when they flew over it during a lesson.

Yep - most are undone by greed or stupidity or a belief that they will never get caught

Yeah true, the bit that stuck out for me though - before he got into the drugs - was where him and his mate were trying to 'extort' that prostiture and they rammed that guy's car and smashed the window in with a crow bar and threatened them. Some psychotic shit right there!

Aye - he had a reputation before he was Mr Big so people were probably too scared to mess with him the more power he got. Almost forgot about him kicking the Turkish nutter to death in the prison exercise yard!

i have all the kray twins books and my dad thinks the same. ronnie and reggies books arent about bragging what they've done but the lads who they knocked about with, the lambrianu brothers and so on, are simply bragging that they where the krays mates.

we had this div come round our school once. he was supposedly some big hard london gangster and spoke about how he used to carry a knuckle duster in one pocket and had a special pocket made in his jacket for his machete. half the kids in the essembly hall had knives and shit on them and didn't take kindly to the 'i was the bollocks' attitude from the prick. this thug travelled all around britain telling people how he killed people, done time, killed a few more people and raped a few women, 'oh and while in jail i found god'. thats pretty much what he said at the end.
