Once you've been doing it for a while you will notice it and it's cool because you can think idol shite whilst running (ladies, football, music), I suppose what happens is you get to a fitness level where you can tolerate the pain and then you notice it less so your thoughts are less about stopping and more about whatever you want, until you hit the wall that is. That's a horrible feeling the first time you hit the wall, you'll be running along smoothly and suddenly you will lose your energy and it takes the most monumental effort to keep going after this point.

Wait till you hit the next wall, Dirk - its called age! Btw, congratulations on coming first dude.

Congratulations. Speaking as someone who got a 2:2 in Humanities, I can't fathom how it is possible to get such a grade. Hard work I guess.

Part of it is defiance but there's many reasons. Somebody said to me, a lad in the year ahead, at the start of the year that my grades would take a noticeable decline compared to the previous year and I thought "Will they fuck. I'll show you." My average was down something like 3% but overall this year I first more modules than I had the previous year. This year I got clear firsts for five modules, two borderline firsts and one 2:1. The two borderlines will be considered firsts because of the other five first grades. Basically, they bump borderline modules up if you are typically a first student. Hard work is the key, whichever way you look at it. Thanks to everyone for the praise. Muchly appreciated.

Hard work really does get you a long, long way. I found myself doing 60 hours a week of uni on top of 20 at work in the final months of my third year which was incredibly tough, but worth it.

Also, my average dipped considerably in the second year (from high 2:1 to a low 2:2) as I really let myself go and just enjoyed the uni experience far too much. I was seriously pissed off when I got my grades for that year, which was another thing that spurred me on.
